Baby's Heartbeat
Posted: 01-17-07 09:53am

Hi girls,

how long did it take for everyone to finally hear their baby's heartbeat for the first time? I am 14.5 weeks today and we think that we heard it faintly today. I am extreemly overweight so my doctor said that it may be a few more weeks until we get a distict heartbeat sound. I still have all the symptoms of pregnancy, even including power puking from smells, so my doctor is not worried. I try not to worry, but at the same time I do.

Any suggestions? Or thoughts?

I'm sure if your doctor was concerned he would've given you an ultrasound.

I got lucky and heard my baby's at 9 weeks exactly. The doctor told me it was probably too early and I was overweight so not to expect to hear it but he'd try and he found it.

My first pregnancy he tried at 13 weeks and couldn't find it (and i'm assuming the size of my uterus didn't feel right to him) so he sent me for an ultrasound, which did not end well.

Pregnancy can be nerve wracking so try to think positively and i'm sure everything is fine. If your doctor isn't concerned then you shouldn't be! Just relax and enjoy your pregnancy. You should be getting an ultrasound soon anyway, right?

I will get an ultrasound at week 19. They do not do them here until then unless it is a high risk pregnancy. My sister had 5 while she was pregnant with her last baby as my nephew has a heart condition and they had to make sure that the last baby didnt either.

So, I have 4 and a half weeks to go before I will get my ultrasound. Were prettu sure we heard the baby move today, just couldnt pick up the heartbeat. We were getting alot of interference with the doppler. I told my doctor I must be having a robot haha. She was really surprised that we were getting so much interference. Oh well I will be going back in 2 weeks and we will go from there.

She could feel my uterus today and said that it felt fine. So we will see what happens over the next few weeks.

Thanks for the positive words.

We found mine when I was 16 weeks (the first time my doc tried cause it was my second appointment, here you dont get your first appointment until 12 weeks apparently) we heard it right away...Im overweight as well

theres lots of reasons it was faint, could be the way he/she was positioned or the position of the placenta or s/he was moving around like crazy....And the list goes on

please dont take this the wrong way but youve said many times you are very overweight and it makes you high risk, how overweight are you? If you dont wanna answer thats fine, im just curious and nosey

I heard .Gabe's heartbeat for the first time at 10wks. But .I am not overweight in the slightest, &apparently .I have a huge healthy porker fetus in there! I know it's hard, but try to be patient, .Mary! Some people who are superly skinny don't hear their baby's heartbeats by 14wks, either! It's tricky to find! As your baby gets bigger, it'll be a whole lot easier for your doc to find! I bet next time you go, you'll hear it loud &clear.

Nosey eh?

Lets just say you could easily loose 2 of me and I would be perfect! I have had weight issues my entire life, even lost 145 lbs once and I felt terrific and then I gained it all back plus some. Its not easy. My goal is to get the weight back off and keep it off after this baby is born. I want to be healthy again and active. It is certainly no fun being overweight. I was going to aquasize classes and then I found out I was pregnant and I had been spotting so I was told not to do that for awhile, and since its been miserable here weather wise I have not gotten back into it again, but then agian, I am always on the go for something and I never stop.

Anyways, I am not too worried as my doctor isn't, but at the same time was wondering when, if at all I should worry.

Anyways, thanks girls,

mary

When I first found out I was pregnant they saw a slight twitch on the screen which they believed to be the baby's heart beat at 7 weeks and 4 days, but they did not know for sure. Then when I went in for my sencond appointment it was confimed that it was the babys heart beat at 11 weeks and 2 days. But I am not over weight I stand at about 5'6 1/2 inches and before my pregnancy I weighed 131 pounds.

Agreeing with the others though I think that if your doctor was concerned they would give you an ultrasound to make sure that everything was ok.

Sorry I cannot be of much help.

I had my first scan at 13 weeks and we could hear a heartbeat but it was quite faint but today I had an appointment with my midwife and she used the doppler is it? I can't remeber what she said it was but anyway and the heartbeat was really strong it was so amazing to hear my baby's heart beating
