My friend is 23 yrs, she had a son about 6
months ago and is still having problems
with leaking urine when she strain her
stomach muscles, sneezing, coughing,
laughing, etc. She doesn't have insurance
and the health dept said something about
having surgery and having the bladder
reattached...... Any info would be
greatly appreciated.....

That happened to me for a while after I
had my daughter. I actually don't
remember how long I had the problem, but I
just kept up with my kegal excercises and
it went away on its own.

I am a registered nurse in labor and
delivery. What she has is stress
incontinence. Which is where the bladder
muscles have weakened from pregnancy.
This is a complaint from many women
including myself. The average time frame
is around a year. If she has not seen any
improvement by then she might want to see
her ob/gyn. I would not recommend the
surgery if she is wanting more children as
this could cause the same thing to happen
all over again. In the meantime she can
use sanitary pads.
