I think fridge is okay, but refreezing is
a no-no. Pretty sure that's right.

I have to do the lecture bit:
never thaw foods in hot water.
Cold water is fine but not hot.
What happens is that you warm up the
bacteria in the food and they start
breeding profusely.
Chicken is one of the worst culprits and
there is high risk of salmonella.
Ok lecture bit over...
You can put thawed foods into the
refrigerator but not the freezer.
If you have defrosted foods and want to
re-freeze them - then you must cook them
first.
Pretty much most foods can be re-heated
once.

Diane, do what my mom used to do.
Make dinner for your normal time then put
his on a plate to heat up when he gets in.

I wouldn't like to say for 100%.
How hot was the water are we talking like
piping hot or just tepid?
If it was hot hot then i'd be inclined to
cook it straight-away and then put it in
the fridge.
If it was tepid tomorrow should be ok.
Yeah, many evenings my mom ate with the
kids (my brothers) and spike (my
ex-step-dad) had his heated up when he
eventually got home.

Yup, I know what you mean.
I hate wasting food and often save
leftovers to make someting else
as it was hot hot - personally i'd cook
it.
When you cook it you take it to such a
high temp as to kill off the bacteria,
that have started breeding, whereas if you
leave it over night they could make you
sick.
When you defrost anything and aren't going
to cook it you need to keep the temp below
5-6c, if you do cook it then it isn't such
a problem.
That's what I learned as a chef.
I mean it's up to you, but for me
personally - i'd cook it now to be safe.

Kia - you know your foodie stuff so i'd
like to ask: if you cook chicken and then
refrigerate it, is it ok to then re-heat
it? Like in a curry or something? I
always thought you could not re-heat
chicken but hubby says it's ok.
Also, what's the deal with rice? I've
had food poisoning from eating cold rice
before now but hubby always ate it as a
kid and he's been fine.

I didn't think reheating cooked chicken
was a problem. I always eat chicken
leftovers.

i've probably got the wrong end of the
stick somewhere then. With two
vegetarian parents i'm a bit wary of meat!

Yeah, cold rice is a bit weird... Except
on sushi. And even then, it's not really
"cold" is it?
I loooove meat. I get nervous cooking
chicken though, .I'm always paranoid I
didn't cook it completely. Food poisoning
is horrible!
