Does stopping birth control mess up your period? Posted: 01-23-07 12:19pm
Hi my girlfriend is approx 2 weeks late
and she is normally quite reqular. She
took a preg test about a week ago and it
came back negative. Could this be too
early too tell? She is going to take
another test in a couple of days. Could
stoping her pill just of messed up her
cycle or is there a good chance she is
pregnant.

The right time to take a pregnancy test is
around a week after you've missed a
period. The results from such a test are
relevant. Your girlfriend can take another
test if she wants. If the result is the
same (negative), your girlfriend is
probably not pregnant. Missing a period is
probably due coming off "the pill” ;
lack of menstruation is an expected and
temporary side effect of having suppressed
ovulation using hormones. It may take
some time for her period to normalize.
Usually it takes 2-3 months before
ovulation spontaneously re-establishes
itself; it can take up to 2 years in the
longest cases.
