Mix of Symptoms, Any Ideas? Posted: 01-26-07 01:49am
I do not have health insurance, but will
hopefully be getting some soon so I can
start going to a doctor. I am trying to
get some idea's of what I might have
though, so I can atleast reasearch what
causes some of these things and any little
steps I can take to help, until I can see
a doctor to find out for sure. Here are
the things I deal with on a regular basis
that I can think of right now.
Hair loss: over the last 2 years my hair
and thinned out and i've lost a lot of it.
After only a few days my brush is full
of hair, every time I take a shower tons
of hairs falls down to the drain, and
through out the day i'm lossing hair every
where I go. In the last 2 years my pony
tail size has recuded to about 1/3 to 1/4
of what it use to be. I use to have to
wear pony tails for fast food jobs, but
anytime I wasn't at work my hair was
down.
Irregular periods, I usually don't go more
than 2 months in a row of my period being
regular, usually i'm a week early or 1-2
weeks late.
Very dry skin. I have found that
petroleum jelly works great for dry skin
so I put it on at night on my hands, arms,
feet, and sometimes legs, depending how
dry they are. After a few days my skin
for the most part is smooth and not dry or
oily, but if I miss more than 2 nights of
putting it on, my skin dryes up pretty
bad
excessive sweating
joint pain, especially in the knees. I
have had my knee's looked at and went
through therapy but there were many things
that they thought might be the cause and
even after therapy it would have taken a
lot more tests to figure out what the true
problem was. I had to move and then lost
my health insurance which is why I wasn't
able to finish.
Easily lose my breath, I have exercise
induces asthma
i go through phases where I get "hot
flashes." it can be cold or the
temperature just fine and I will suddenly
get really hot for no reason.
I get random abdominal pain, as well as a
shapr pain in the entire area below my
belly button almost anytime I have to
poop, and occassionally when I need to
pee.
I'm only 21. Since high school i've
dealt with irregular periods and excessive
sweating, at 18 I got my knee pains, 6
months later and shortly after my 19th
birthday, I noticed quite a bit of hair
loss.
Since then i've noticed abdominal pain
that wasn't related to starting my period.
Dry skin has also gotten worse over the
past 2 years.
Any ideas? Anything to get me started in
researching? If I know what my symptoms
tend to lean towards, then I can research
those different things, and it'll give me
a better idea of other symptoms to look
for so that when I go into the doc, i'll
have a better idea of what they'll need to
know about my symptoms. Thanks

I have no idea what's wrong with you so
you should definitely go to a doctor, but
it sounds like you are overall unhealthy.
You should incorporate an overall healthy
lifestyle including exercise, diet (raw
veg and fruit), internal cleansing,
restoring your digestive health (cleanse,
parasite, candida, probiotics),
environmental changes (chemicals used, air
quality, water, etc.), and
supplementation. Depending on your
problem or severity will determine how far
you will have to take it. So go to the
doctor and find out the diagnosis and then
talk to a naturopath and nutritionist to
improve your overall health.
I'll also note for the dry skin it would
help to take cooler showers. I'm not
sure, but I don't think petroleum jelly is
good for the skin. Find a better
moisturizer and drink plenty of water
based on your body weight and level of
activity.

Thyroid Could Be the Culpit Posted: 02-06-07 23:18pm
The symptoms described sounds like it
could be your thyroid which is a very
large regulator of many systems in your
body- it isn't something I would wait to
look into. Go to the doctor. You can't
beat peace of mind and it sound like it
might be serious if left untreated.
If it is your thyroid- they can regulate
it with medications. It is important you
see an md to have the appropriate blood
work done.
Good luck.

More specifically, some of your symptoms
(irregular periods, hot flashes, dry skin,
lethargy, hair loss) point more towards
hypothyroidsim, which is an
underproduction of the thyroid hormones.
As far as knee pain goes and the being out
of breath, are you overweight (and I am
not being mean)? Typically, people with
hypothyroidism gain weight and end up
overweight which would aggravate exercise
induced or intrinsic asthma and also put
more pressure on your joints owing to the
knee pain.
I know how you feel. I pretty much have
all these symptoms too. I have gained
about 20 pounds in less than a year and am
in the process of taking it off. I get
the random "no reason" abdominal pain too.
This past month at the beginning of my
period I had to go to the emergency room
and found out I had cysts on both of my
ovaries, so some of my pain comes from
that. It's normal to get a pain (at least
for me) when you need to take a poop.
Sounds like you are almost holding your
pee for too long though which can lead to
stress incontinence. I will be seeing a
new doctor in march. Every time I have
been tested nothing has shown up, but I
shouldn't feel like crap for nothing so I
am going to find out what it is.
I really think you need to go to the
doctor. Your health is not like a tv.
You can't just say i'll take care of it
later because sometimes your body won't
allow you to take care of it later.

It would be best to go into see a doctor
then to research possible problems. You
son't want to be frightened by
misdiagnosis or by researching into
something that may not even be what you
have. Sometimes when researching
"possible" reasons for your symptoms you
might over anylize and freak your self
out. Just remember that the suggestions
of possible illnesses are just suggestions

An employee of mine was experiencing alot
of the same symptoms (hair loss, hot
flashes) hers turned out to be an
overactive thyroid and she had to be put
on medication to regulate it.
