Does Anyone Have Thier Own Place!
Posted: 02-06-04 17:34pm

Hello everyone im thinking about leaving active duty and going down to the reserves(one weekend a month). I dont want to go back home and live with my parents. I would like to get an apartment and find a job and go to school. Im so tired of being active duty. I miss civilian life. Im just afraid I will get out and cant afford to make ends meet. I was curious if any of you had their own place.

I've been living with my boyfriend for 2 years now, but only during the school year. We go to a school that is about 3 hours from where we live. So we moved up here together, and although our parents pay for our rent (only because it would cost the same as room and board at the college) money is tight. We still have to pay for our phone, groceries, cable, internet, gas to drive back and forth to school, and anything else we need. I have a job, but my boyfriend doesn't. His mother gives him money, because he plays soccer for the school and doesnt have time to have a job. My point is that, even though our parents give us money to pay for rent, we have to be very careful with what we buy, its tough let me tell you. It's nice to have our own place, but unless we were both working full time, we would never be able to afford our own place. I mean right now, we live in a small town in central new york and our rent is only $500 a month, and thats pretty expensive around here. We wouldn't be able to afford this place without our parents help, so I strongly suggest finding a roommate to help pay for the expenses, it would make it ten times easier on yourself. You could ask a friend or even put an ad in the paper, and you can choose the person to live with you. I wish you the best of luck!!

Congratulations to those of you who have been on their own, and made it, that's a great accomplishment. But, honestly when i'm finished with school, i'm moving back in with my parents until I get married. Because, when you live on your own at such a young age, you are forced to become more responsible, and you in a sense miss out on being young. And trust me, you don't have to lecture me on being responsible or being immature, I was forced to grow up way before I should have. My father was an alcoholic and my parents split up, but I am happy to say they are back together now, and my father has been sober for 12 years now. I was raped when I was 15 years old, by my older boyfriend. I lost quite a few years in all that mess. I want a chance to completely enjoy myself. This is my last semester in a 2 year college, i'm going home to live with parents after I graduate, I am going on to a 4 year school, and I am going to live it up while I can. I have plenty of time to move out again, on my own, and start a family. I don't want to rush into it. I want to get a good education a good job, and become successful. And when I live with my parents I can save money, and still enjoy my time with them. My relationship with them hasn't always been great, and now that it is, I want to spend as much time with them as I can. I work hard, I have 3 jobs ( not when i'm in school, when i'm home) I have a brand new car, a 2003 honda civic coupe, and I pay for my tuition. I hate it when i'm living up here on my own, and money is tight. I hate being able to just get by, I like to know that I have more money than I need. It stresses me out, and I can't deal with all that stress, I have other things that I should be worrying about. I mean it feels like I spend more time at work, than I do at college, and thats not right. I came up here to college to get a good education, not to work.

Like I said, to those of you living on your own, more power to ya, and you should be proud of yourself, I am proud of you, cuz I know what it's like!!
