What causes abnormal morphology? Is there a cure?
Posted: 01-28-07 19:11pm

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about a year now and have been unsuccessful. We are currently working with a fertility doctor and are in the diagnosis stages. I checked out ok but my husband did not. His sperm count is great but his morphology was 100% abnormal. The Dr. instructed my husband to take a retest. What is causing the abnormality?? Is there a cure?? What happens if the retest shows the same results?? Someone told me that he should be detoxifying his body with water and cranberry juice...is that true??

According to your husband’s sperm morphology result (100% abnormal spermatozoids) he is experiencing teratozoospermia. The reasons men experience teratozoospermia remain unknown in more than 90% of all cases but is probably due to a chromosome or genetic disorder. Testicular varicocela can cause teratozoospermia, but not always. Unfortunately there is no cure for teratozoospermia because the reasons for it are still mainly unknown. But there are still chances that you can both achieve a pregnancy if you try ICSI (Intra cytoplasmatic sperm injection).
The “detox with water and cranberry juice” will probably not work.
