Fat Stomach
Posted: 01-29-07 23:13pm

I'm not at all sure where to place this but i'm trying here, I guess.

I'm not really over weight but my lower abdomen is fat and sticks out. I could a million sit ups and eat only one salad a day and it's still like that.

Is there something wrong and how am I supposed to get rid of it?

Situps, and crunches only tighten your muscle. You need to get rid of the fat by doing aerobic type excercise, and then sit ups, once the fat is gone Smile hope this helps a little.]

You might have fat in around the organs in you stomach area.

Next, maybe you have been holding your breath when you do sit ups, and have been pushing your stomach outward.

For the most part, I would say it is the fat you have on the inside.

Can I burn the fat on the inside?

And what are aerobic exercises?

You burn fat proportionately. That means that if you lose 10% off your stomach, you lose 10% off your face, arms, legs, etc.

The same for your innerards. Just watch what you eat.

Aerobic exercise, can be aerobics itself, or jogging, running, cycling, etc. What ever you like to do for cardiovascular(ie cardio) exercise.

Watching what you eat, and exercising is the best way to get that stomach in shape. But, do not get fooled by the fitness magazines. To get a six pack like that requires alot of hard work. It is almost an unrealistic goal for many. Just having a flat stomach with a two pack or 4 pack is enough.

Just having a flat stomach is my goal. Lol.

Ps many of the fitness magazine models look like that because they have too. It is what makes them money. They suffer to have that kind of body. They may be smiling and looking like they are having a good time. But I would not want their quality of life to have a six pack. What many do before a photo shoot is not consume water for a few days. So they get that cut look you always see. However, not drinking water is terrible for your health to say the least.

Good look. If you have any more questions please ask. I am not an expert as such, but I can do my best for you.

Hey I study health & exercise science so I may be able to help as such.

Not sure what gender you are, however males tend to store fat in the abdominal region where as females in the thighs and extremities.

Firstly, it could quite possibly be exaggerated by poor posture. An imbalance or weak abdominal muscles can cause the hip to come forward and have that effect.

The first step in reducing the fat is to have a healthy intake (food) and out take (exercise). Consuming to much food will disrupt this balance. It is recommended that exercising about 75% for at least 30minutes a day (doesnt have to be continuous) for an optimal 5 days a week.

And in response to one of the other posts, muscle conditioning would be beneficial as well. Not only does the workout burn a lot of energy, the incease in muscle will allow you to burn more fat, even while doing nothing at all.

Hope that helps

You've had such great responses so far, the only thing I would want to add is a little food-for-thought.
It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound of fat. If you burn more calories than your caloric intake you will lose body fat.
So as others have mentioned, check out your diet. If you are doing a considerable amount of cardio it is definately your diet. Maybe even mix up your cardio abit. Intervals. walk 5 mins, jog for 5 and then run as fast as you can for 1 min. then back to walking and so on.
I have to admit I'm not a fan of 15 mins 2x a day even if that's all that works for a person. Think of your body like a car.. (humour me here Laughing ),if you run your car for 15 mins.--by the time it has warmed up, you're shutting it down. What good is that? For getting the body to burn fat efficiently I prefer a minimum of 30 mins, but preferably 45mins to an hour. Let us know how it goes.
