Soda And the Immune System - Anyone Know If This Is True? Posted: 01-31-07 13:38pm
Hi, I am a 36 year old male and although
i'm not diagnosed with any specific immune
disorder, I currently am on the edge of
bronchitis/walking pneumonia for what
seems like the 5th year in a row. It
seems that any time I get a case of the
sniffles it inevitably leads to a raging
respiratory or throat infection that can
take weeks to go away and doesn't seem to
respond to antibiotics. I also get
canker sores, pimples, etc at the same
time - all signs to me that my body is
giving up the ghost when it comes to
fighting any infections.
I'm trying to figure out why this is and
came across the quote below on about 5
different websites, but all in *exactly*
the same wording with no references.
None of the sites were major health sites.
I'm wondering if anyone can vouch for
this info - I do drink a ton of soda.
"eating or drinking 100 grams (8 tbsp.) of
sugar, the equivalent of one 12-ounce can
of soda, can reduce the ability of white
blood cells to kill germs by forty
percent. The immune-suppressing effect of
sugar starts less than thirty minutes
after ingestion and may last for five
hours. "

it does sound like imune responce to
allergy.you can get simple skin tests
done, where the doc applies drops of
allergens to your skin then with a spatula
scratches, anything your body reacts to
will show??at least thats how they do it
here in NZ
well all i can say is keep looking,
is the soda you drink sugar free, the
reason i ask is there has been alot of
controversy about the artificial sweeter
aspartme. some thinking they are dying of
cancer or other nasty manifestations of
poor health and they are really just being
poisoned by this artificial sweetner that
looks so inocent.
i have heard stuff similar to the sugar
what you are talkign about, i also read
that tumours feed on sugar and thrive
freely in acid environments???all the
best,keep looking.
