Suspect I May Have Genital Herpes...
Posted: 02-02-07 21:40pm

I'm a 27 year old male, and I have had the same sexual partner for about 10 years now. I had only particapated in oral sex prior to my current relationship, but I know she had several sexual partners prior.

In the last couple of months a couple of times I developed sores on my buttocks, and I believe once behind my thighs. They are always single sores, which I initially thought there were some form of pressure-related sores, as I am pretty obese and sit at a computer chair all day at work and then several hours when I get home. I can be at the computer at home for sometimes periods of 3-5 hours, because I am an avid online gamer.

Anyway, i'm a pretty paranoid person when it comes to my health, so recently I started going to the doctor for every little sympton I had as i'm really trying to drop bad habits (drinking), and lose the weight. My most recent doctor visit was for a tingling/kinda numbness I was feeling primarily in my knees, but it feels like it is sometimes in my legs too. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now, and during this time I noticed I had a small sore on my buttock again. I failed to mention the sores to my doctor, because I did not yet make the connection to the tingling feeling in my legs, which I later read can be a symptom of genital herpes. He didn't seem to be too concerned with the tingling feeling in my legs, but we did an x-ray anyway, which I have yet to get the results from.

Anyway, the sores are sometimes really painful mainly because I sit so much, but most the time they go away relatively quickly and generally do not rupture, but do feel soft like they have liquid inside them. Sometimes they aren't even very painful at all, and I don't notice them when not sitting. The couple of times they did rupture, they started to bleed, but they never seem white or pus-like as in a lot of the pictures I have seen. I do tend to itch a lot on my buttocks, and the backs of my thighs, but I attributed that to dry skin or something. I also have never had a sore on or near my penis/genital area.

Long story short, my girlfriend has never had any symptoms, so is it possible that one of us could have gotten it from a previous sexual partner even though it was that many years ago. Then it just now surface only with myself? Based on what I have said, does it seem like I may have genital herpes? I am going to get tested asap, but I am really stressing out right now, and could use some insight.

Hi there I wouldnt stress 2 much. First do you have any acne? Possibly are these pimples? Many male have acne on other parts of the body.

Have you changed your diet? New underwear? New shower gell?

Think of all the thigns you have changed recently and give it a good thought. Sometimes it just might link up.

Good idea to see the Dr. Right away.

As for one of you having herpes...Givin the time you have never had any symptoms id say you chances are slimmer....But I still said chance.

I wouldnt worry to much, even if they are you can get them undercontrol before they get to your peepee!!

Many people live healthy happy lives with them so stay up man.

It's possible. Herpes is funny like that; most people don't even get symptoms. Like color, I also wondered if it could be acne. If you're overweight and sitting all day, you could be breaking out on your behind. You should probably wear cotton undies, as opposed to silk or anything else that does not breathe quite as well, if you don't already. Going to the doctor does sound like a good idea though. You never know.

After speaking with my girlfriend, she recently donated blood a couple of months ago....

That said, considering how long we have been together, if I had herpes I guess it would be highly unlikely that she would not. My question is, when you donate blood is stds like herpes screened for, and if so would they tell her? Is it possible for her to have herpes, and the blood bank not find it?

Thank you so much for your help thus far.

That's a good question. I actually do not think that they test for herpes. I know that people with herpes can donate blood. Most blood banks will just ask that they not donate during an outbreak or if they took antiviral medication within the last 48 hours. That leads me to believe that herpes isn't really a huge deal as far as donating blood is concerned, so I am thinking that they might not test for it.

I don't know if I have acne, I am hispanic with a very dark complexion, so I guess it's hard to tell. I do often get zits on my face, shoulders, and back though.

The only thing I have changed recently is that I was a really heavy drinker (beer mostly) and I started to really cut down a few months ago, and have virtually eliminated alcohol altogether as of late. I also used to smoke pot fequently, and have also eliminated that habit as well.

Also, the skin on the backs of my thighs, inner thighs, and buttocks seems to be a lot darker/dry than the rest of my body. I attributed this to scratching so much back there, for as far back as I can remember, could this be jock itch or something along those lines? I used to have really bad athlete's foot when I was in high school that still lingers, and I believe I did have a brief case of jock itch many years ago that went away immediately through the use of anti-fungal cream. I'm just really stressed out because I won't see the doctor until next week, and then i'm sure the results will take forever.

Also, will I possibly get more feedback if I posted in the std forums, I didn't see them when I initially made the post.
