Q: White discharge during pregnancy: vaginal infection?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 3rd, 2007
I am 16 weeks pregnant and over the past 3 weeks have developed a very heavy discharge, it smells slightly, and is a white creamy colour. I have to wear a light sanitary towel every day. I can actually feel it coming out of me in gushes, like they way when it feels like ur period is starting. Is this normal or do i have something to worry about? Thankyou.

According to the symptoms you report (vaginal discharge that smells slightly and has a white, creamy color) you could be experiencing a vaginal infection (colpitis). Vaginal infections during pregnancy should be taken very seriously because they may cause fetal damage, miscarriage or premature birth. You must visit your obstetrician to check if you are experiencing a vaginal infection or not.
