Ultrasound
Posted: 02-04-07 19:03pm

My first ultrasound was during my 7 weeks. Does anyone know when my next ultrasound will be? I heard you get one when your 5 months to see what sex the baby is, but will I get one before then?
Another question,
my mom says that if the heartbeat is over 170bpm, its a girl. She said faster heartbeats means its a girl. I heard its a myth, so I just need to know the real truth. Because my mom over exagerates way too much. Because everyones first ultrasoubd heartbeat was around 160, mine was 178. I never read anyones ultrasound being 178bpm. So I hope thats a normal heartbeat.

The first time I heard my baby's heartbeat was at 9 weeks via doppler and it was 175. The faster heartbeat = girl thing is a myth, I had a boy.

I was only supposed to have 1 ultrasound and it was at 18 weeks. That's when they measure everything to make sure everything is ok, and if the baby cooperates you can find out the sex. It's different for everyone how many you'll have.

There is no 'standard' amount of ultrasounds to have. Your insurance has a lot to do with it as does your doctor. If they don't pay, you don't get a second one - and if your doctor doesn't think it is necessary, you won't get one. I'm assuming they did the first one to date your pregnancy, right? A second ultrasound is not needed unless your pregnancy is considered high risk for some reason.

They gave me my first ultrasound to see when I conceived and how far along I am. Thats how I found out I conceived december 12th and is due sometime around september 4th. But I hope I get another one to see what sex the baby is. I have cigna insurance and it covers half the payment. So I only have to pay $40 every appointment I have so that isn't too bad.

If my insurance didnt cover all the appointments, id have to have $80 each time. But since it covers it, I only have to pay half. I guess im at a expensive gyno. And I go back on the 12th of this month, and I dont know what there gunna do with this appointment. The already gave me an ultrasound, blood tests, pap smear, what do they need now?

Nothing. If your pregnancy is not high risk, then all those appts. Are pretty boring and pointless. They just check your urine for protein and look at your belly size once your bigger. Its still best for the baby to go everytime though, just in case.

So this appointment wont really be important? I was there 2 weeks ago and now I go back. But, since I gave blood *7 tubes of it* will they know if the baby is ok? Because all that blood was for hiv and stuff. Maybe thats why they want me back? Im not sure. But, I just cant wait to find out what sex the baby is. We already got a 4 in 1 crib, a bassinet, cute soft blankets, a carseat and a head supporter for the carseat. I love looking at baby things. The babys room is going to be a sesame street theme Smile soo cute. I cant wait. And being only 9 weeks and in the first trimester, im already so excited.

I have cigna too and I paid nothing for my appointments. $40 is outrageous, i've never heard of a co-pay that high.

I liked going to my boring appointments (i wasn't high risk until the end), I loved hearing his heartbeat each time.

they want you back to see how your pregnancy is progressing. Like I said they will have you pee in a cup everytime and check for protein and then take your blood pressure and thats about it.

Wow, you got your stuff really early. I didnt have any of those things until the third trimester.

Yeah that was aweosme to hear the heartbeat, that was the only thing that motivated me to get out of bed ( I was always sick)

Yeah I saw the heartbeat my first ultrasound. Its like a blob. And I got 2 pictures of it. But my co-pay is $40. I guess it depends on where you live? I dont know. But when I go on the 12th ill ask my doctor about the pay. I like going everytime too because its my first baby and I like learning about new things. Will I know if the baby is normal anytime soon? Or will I not know until birth?

I like going to the boring appointment too, its nice even if I didnt get to hear her heartbeat (which I love by the way) because then I can ask all my stupid questions (if I can remember them) and get my mind put at ease....I hate peeing in the cup every month though, I think by the time I have her they would have enough of my pee to fill a small pool (i know that sounds gross, but it was funny the first time I said it to my mum apparently)

hearing the heartbeat and seeing the heartbeat are different, seeing the heartbeat was wonderful but hearing the heartbeat every month is just amazing...And its so great to hear it and know she is ok
