Sour smell from vagina: yeast or vaginal infection?
Posted: 02-04-07 20:11pm

I have a sour smell coming from my vagina. It appears as well that there are fumes. I have never had this happen before. I have had a new sexual partener recently. What could it be? Is it possible that I have a yeast infection? Should I try over-the-counter meds first? I do not have a regular doctor because I have no insurance.

Given only the symptoms you report with no mention of vaginal discharge (“sour smell and fumes coming from your vagina”)... it is hard to say if you are experiencing a vaginal infection, or not. Vaginal discharge (fluor vaginale) is the major sign of most vaginal infections (colpitis). You can’t start any treatment without a correct diagnosis so you can visit a gynecologist for an examination.
