Baby/toddler-proofing (same As Pregnancy) Posted: 02-05-07 00:34am
To all you mom's out there finding the
need to baby-proof your houses
now...Please don't overlook things like
the television if it is in your child's
reach....I learned the hard way with my
first born..When he was 2 (almost 3), he
tried to climb the entertainment center
before I could get to him (once they
become molbile, they become very
fast)...Within the seond and a half it
took for me to get to him, he had pulled
the television down on top of
himself...Lacerated his liver and spent 6
days in the hospital letting it heal..2 in
intensive care..We were very fortunate not
to lose him...He didn't need surgery or a
blood transfusion because it healed on its
own....We only learned afterward how easy
it was for that to be accomplished...If
the television set is "front" heavy,
rather than having the most weight in the
back, it will be very easy to move..Please
check it..Any doubts, there are brackets
you can buy at most department/chain-type
stores (walmart, ex) or hardware stores
that will secure heavy items so they can't
move or will move very little...I wish
we'd have known about them sooner...A lot
of pain on all parts could have been
spared....Thanks for listening..Tracy
