Loestrin 24

I have been taking loestrin 24 fe, and it is not cheap, I was wondering if any one is taking the generic version on loestrin 24 and how they like it, if at all? And how much it typically is. Also I had heard that with loestrin that it is possible that the periods are light, or maybe not at all. And that not at all part has got me worried, this will be my second month with out one. Confused Thanks!

Hi, I'm also on Loestrin24, I have been for about three months (given to me from my gyno) but the fourth pack I had to pay and was shocked at the amount. Have you found any alternatives to loestrin24? I've tried about three other types of birth control and none of them helped at all - the symptoms lasted longer than two months and so far loestrin24 is the only thing I've tried that works. I do get my period for four-six days and that's about it. The bad thing is that if I skip a day or two, I immediately start my period, but it beats all the horrible symptoms from the other bcp's.

Naturally I'm a bit wary to try anything else, but because of the cost I just might have to!

Any information would be great, thanks!

I was prescribed loestrin and got a generic version instead- Junel. Your pharmacy should be able to give it to you, just tell them you want generic and they are able to make the switch. I got Junel but I think there are other ones too.

Oh, I should add this- Loestrin is supposed to make your periods lessen or go away. Most people think this is a good thing Smile If it worries you, you can switch to something else. When I was on the Mirena IUD I never got my period, I got used to it but at first I started taking pregnancy tests just to be sure. If it helps, keep some pregnancy tests around!

I am also not sure how much Junel costs because my insurance pays for it. But I'm sure it is less than Loestrin. Like I said, your pharmacy should be able to switch it for you, they'll call your doc if they need to.

I have insurance (BCBS) and it cost fifty dollars, which is twice the amount of the other bcp's I'd ever had, hence my shock.

Thanks for the information about Junel; I'm surprised that my pharmacy didn't say anything to me about the generic brands, they knew how concerned I was about the price. The Loestrin24 for me, after insurance, was fifty dollars, which is quite a bit, so thanks for your information!

That's the best thing about Loestrin24 for me, the lessened periods! For the first time in years I'm finally 'regular' and not having my period for the entire month! Hopefully this Junel will work 'just as good.' Thanks again!
