Pre-eclampsia is a complication experience
by women in the third trimester of
pregnancy with an unknown cause.
Pre-eclampsia should be taken very
seriously because it can be turn into
eclampsia, which is a life-threatening
condition. Pre-eclampsia manifests with 3
main signs: swelling, proteins in the
urine (proteinuria) and high blood
pressure (arterial hypertension).
Eclampsia is an urgent condition that
include the same signs, plus seizures. The
seizures during eclampsia are similar to
those in epilepsy, but here the attacks do
not stop spontaneously but become more and
more prolonged until the mother dies
because she can’t take a breath. The
only solution for treating eclampsia is to
terminate the pregnancy via normal
delivery or c-section. A pregnancy
termination can be delayed, in easier
forms of pre-eclampsia, if women respond
to the therapy administered. If
pre-eclampsia is severe or does not
respond to the given therapy, the
pregnancy should be terminated.
