Hang Nail/cut And Hiv Infection Posted: 02-08-07 23:48pm
Hi, i'm a health care worker and very
concerned about an incident that happened
at work about 5-6 weeks ago.
I was doing a rectal examination on a hiv
infected man, I was wearing latex gloves,
but when I was finished and removed my
gloves, one of my gloves hit the floor and
I stupidly picked it up, and anal fluids
came into contact with a hang nail on my
thumb. What are my chances of contracting
hiv?..I'm scared, especially since I came
down with the flu aprox 2 weeks after
exposure that lasted two weeks, I never
get sick like this so it worries me..And
the hiv patient is in the early stages so
chances are his viral load was high when
this happened.

Jane,
How are you feeling these days?
I am trying to understand hang nail. I
assume it is a wound. If it was healing
over, there was no way for the virus into
the bloodstream.
