Vaginal Irritation. Herpes Or Yeast Infection?
Posted: 02-09-07 13:19pm

I year ago I went to my family doctor about red spots on my vagina that itched and burned. She took a look and said it was a yeast infection. She took a pap test and gave me cream. I then went back because the symptons returned this time with cuts that had a clear leaky fluid (which I remmber started on the space between my vaginal hole and butt hole when my boyfriend was to rough one night when we were having sex and pulled my butt checks apart. God knows why). She said the pap test was clear and gave me an ointment saying it must be from the soap I was using. It helped but agian it came back. I went back every month with the same symptoms and she kept taking pap tests and just gave me cream for yeast infections. Which I thought could be since i'm on the pill.

Then 17 days ago I went back with it being the worst it had ever been. I had red spots every where and was no way I could have sex because it was way to painful. Small cuts fom the top of my vagina all the way down to that space between my hole and butt hole. She took another look and said it was herpes. I was shocked and confused considering she look at the same thing for months and never told me that before. I had the same sexual partner for 4 years and am pretty sure he hasn't cheated on me. I asked her if it could be anything else and she said no the only thing you can get cuts from is herpes. And decided not to do any testing.

I then went to a different doctor to get blood work done. It came back unknown. One part said it was reactive another said non reactive and another part said unknown. He told me to get more blood work done because it was still unknown if I had it or not.

Now I still have red spots and cuts but my vagina is swolling and I have a rash on my legs that has gotten better since last night and white flaky skin on my vaginal lips and a little bit on my butt checks. I had genital warts before and it started almost like this and thought maybe they came back but the doctor said it wasn't. I also have white cottage cheese discharge that sometimes smells sour and yeasty. I got every other std test done and they all came back negative.
Does this sound more like herpes or a yeast infection or could I possiably have both at the same time. Also where it itchs (which is pretty much every where including the space between my vaginal lips and legs) my skin looks very dry and shiny looking with wrinkles. And when my skin pulls to much when it's like this more cuts form. When I itch it non stop small red bumps form and leak the clear fluid. The bumps between my lips and legs have stopped leaking and are now covered with the white flaky skin. But start to leak when I scratch agian and they seem like they cannot heal. I've never had a blister or a scab.

I need help bad. I have to wait through the weekend til monday to get another blood test done then wait another 2 weeks for the results and I need some advice to calm my nerves until then. Doctors don't seem to be helping me here. Can anyone give me some addvice to what it is please!

Ps- what does it mean when a blood test comes back undeterminded? Does that sound like it probuly will come back positive the next time?

Boy, that sounds awful. I am not sure what it is, but do not give up. If one doctor keeps telling you that they don't know, see another. There's got to be someone who can at least give you something for the pain.

Be careful if you are still having sex, of course, since you do not have if you have anything contagious.

If the test came back undetermined, I do not think it means that it will necessarily be positive next time. I think it just means that they really don't know either way for some reason. If your doctor still does not have any answers for you the next time that you see him or her, then you could ask about the undetermined part. Ask just what that means and why he or she thinks it might have come out that way.

It is possible to have a yeast infection and herpes at the same time. I've been worried about herpes lately (i still haven't been to a clinic to find out yet) but i've been reading alot about it. Herpes sometimes can provoke a yeast infection. But i'm thinking that it's possible that maybe your boyfriend being too rough during sex at that time could have something to do with it. Herpes is usually white bumps that eventually turn into open sores within a few days. Also, when you clean yourself sometimes using a scented soap can cause a skin irriation, but I don't think it would cause cuts like you're describing. I'm pretty sure that if it were herpes, your doctor could at least be curious about it at first glance. I don't think herpes usually causes cuts. It usually seems to cause itchy, very very painful sores. You might want to go to a clinic or something and get a specific herpes test just in case. Gooooood luck =)

I went back to see my doctor yesterday. She still doesn't know anything. I told her the cuts are still there and nothing healed and that no blisters came or scabs. She then said she was unsure and I should make an oppointment with my gyno. Which will take more time. She also said that she did not understand the blood results and to bring it with me to the gyno. I'm starting to think my doctor doesn't know anything.

Well, if your doctor doesn't know anything about your condition, that's probably why she's referring you to a gynecologist, that way you will be with a doctor who does know what they are talking about. It sounds like she's being responsible to me, and trying to get you the best care, instead of just making up a diagnosis.

Hmm .. I'm not so sure she's all that responsible. It is extremely responsible that she's referring you to a gyno, but she should have done that a very long time ago, and she really shouldn't have perscribed you any type of cream or medication unless she knew for sure what you had. She's being responsible now, but the fact that she waited this long to really really look into your condition doesn't seem very responsible to me. From the very beginning of your story it seems to me like she hasn't been taking your condition very seriously and she's been perscribing you medications for yeast infections and then she suddenly changes it to herpes, when she really shouldn't have done any type of medication until she knew exactly what your condition was. I think you need a new doctor.

That could easily be herpes!

Men do not have the same kind of outbreaks as women do, so your man can have it from a long time ago, and would never know!

You need something like valtrex to treat this illness.

This is why a "gyno" is better than seeing your family doctor for those kinds of problems.

I went to my gyno which looked at my cuts and said he's pretty sure it's not herpes because it doesn't look like them but he's done a test to make sure. He gave me a steroid cream which is working wonders and has healed the area in 1 day.
