Is this a Heart Disorder or Anxiety? Posted: 02-10-07 06:47am
Hi,
For the past two weeks (since two
Thursdays ago) - I've been having chest
pain/pressure and more pain on the left
side. I have palpitations and I feel that
my heart is involved in this chest pain.
I'm suffering from severe generalized
anxiety disorder and two weeks ago the
attacks started happening.
My question is, do I need to see a doctor
now? I'm really worried about my heart
because it has been hurting a lot lately
and I'm wondering if I should ask to get
an EKG/ECG scan done, and maybe a stress
test and anything else to make sure that
I'm not going to get a heart attack.
What would be your opinion on this whole
situation and what do you think I should
do?
One of the reasons you might be
experiencing chest/heart pain could be
possible heart disorder. Heart disorders
can be tested via a physical examination
(auscultation) and ECG, to begin. Further
diagnostic procedures (holter monitoring,
stress test, echocardiography,
coronarography…) can be performed only
if necessary. According to your age (20)
and pre-existing conditions, it seems to
me that your chest pain may be due to
anxiety rather than a heart disorder.
