Was Anyone Early?
Posted: 02-11-07 20:00pm

Was anyone in labor earlier than your due date? Im afraid of that happening because doesnt that mean premature baby? Also, when will I know if my baby has a birth defect or something wrong with him/her? Because I did a few things before I even knew I was pregnant and afraid that harmed the baby. Im only 10 weeks right now.

I was 2 days over due.
They ask you around 22 wks if you want a blood test done which test for spinal bifada (sp?) and down syndrome. Thats when they asked me. I wouldnt worry about what you did before. Just worry about the present and future. Smile

Yes I went into labor when I was 30 weeks with my second child but they stopped it and I was put on bedrest till 36 weeks and had her 37 weeks. I would try and not worry about going into labor early. They have several different meds to stop it if you do. Some birth defects you might not know until you have the child. I found out about my daughters when I was 7 months and they could not tell me how bad it was. I just had to wait till I had her to see. Dont worry to much about birth defects with all the medicines and technology today they can fix most of them where you can hardly tell

My baby was born at 37 weeks. She was just perfect. But my first son was born at 26 weeks. And he was premature. At 37 weeks they are considered term babies.

My baby was born at 37 weeks and had a hard time breathing. I think she only got a 7 on her apgar.

They had to take her to continue to suction her lungs. She wasn't crying much at all.

She was tiny too. She was only 6.8 and 19in long.

I was one of those woman who wanted to go over due. But at my 36 week apt I was a finger tip dialated and 3 days later I had my baba!!!!!!!

So because the baby was premature doesnt mean it came that way because of smoking right? Because my friends think smoking is the only cause for prematurity. And I quit smoking 4 weeks ago.

I have never smoked a day in my life. My babies were both early, one of them made it the other didn't. Please don't tell me that you are thinking of smoking again to have your baby early. There are any number of reasons that your baby could be premature.

a rupture of your bag of waters, an infection of your uterus, cervix or urinary tract, chronic diseases, including high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease and hypothyroidism,
an abnormally shaped uterus or a uterus with a benign tumor (fibroid),
a previous premature delivery, smoking, alcohol use or misuse of other drugs, malnutrition, pre-eclampsia
are all causes of premature birth.

to see if your baby is fine??? How far along are you? The earlier you stop smoking the better your baby is. If you stopped smoking early in your pregnancy your baby will be fine. If in deed you did stop smoking your blood tests will not show if your child is going to have a low birth weight.
These are the problems you can have when you are smoking during your pregnancy and after the child is born. This can cause life long issues.
spontaneous abortions
ectopic pregnancies
other birth and delivery problems
fetal brain damage
growth retardation/low birth weight
lower or higher than normal infant blood pressure
problems requiring neonatal intensive care
infant death from perinatal disorders; sudden infant death syndrome (sids)
cancer-causing agents in infants' blood; potentially carcinogenic genetic mutations; and childhood leukemia
mental retardation
respiratory disorders during childhood
eye problems during childhood
attention deficit disorder
other learning and developmental problems
behavioral problems even into the adolescent years
smoking during adolescence
various adult health problems including obesity

Im 10 weeks. I quit smoking 4 weeks ago. So thats fine right? I knew what happens when you smoke while pregnant because I read up all on it and I just want to take blood tests to see how the baby looks. But when they see the sex of the baby, wont they see if the baby is fine by just looking at the ultrasound?

According to my doctor I was only 37 weeks when I went into labor. Rolling Eyes I beg to differ, but that's my weird story, not typical. Anyway, my son, delivered at 37 weeks, weighed 9 lbs and 11 oz. Hardly preemie. So to answer your question, yes and no.

A blood test isn't going to show you how the baby looks. During your level two u/s. Normally between 16-25 weeks, they can tell if something is wrong with your baby they then will most likely order and amnio.

I smoked up until I was 5 or 6 weeks pregnant.(i found out I was pregnant at around 4 weeks obviously).. My baby seems to be fine, im 39 wks pregnant, no complications ... Not saying that smoking is any good for the baby or for you! I am so glad I quit.

My friend had her baby a day after her due date and smoked throughout the whole entire pregnancy as if she wasnt even pregnant..**soo gross**

her baby wasnt early, but she was born very light and has problems seeing.

that blood test is an afp test I beleive, I had mine around 16 weeks I think

ok this is gonna sound really bad and I know it so please dont get mad at me but, something being off about your afp is kinda a blessing in disguise, mine showed that she had a higher risk for downs and I had to get a level 2 utrasound and amnio, since she was positioned funny (face down against my back) I got to get another one to see what we didnt see, and she was still positioned funny so I get to get yet another one, so by the time im 28 weeks ill have had 5 ultrasounds, its so nice to see her

and dont feel bad, I worry a lot about if my baby will be early or not, I never smoked but I had bv around 18 weeks (i think) and ever since ive been paranoid because I have a lot of health problems

I was induced a day after my due date. The induction took 29 hours. If I hadn't been induced, I probably would have gone over my due date by quite a few days.

But I didn't smoke at all during my pregnancy.

a baby that is born at 36 week and earlier is considered a preemie ...So from 37-42 weeks is a full term baby...

Well, my next appointment is march 12th. I will be around 15 weeks pregnant. How do they see if the baby is ok? Just by an ultrasound? Also, I took a lot of blood tests about a month ago and no call. Is that a good sign? It was blood work for hiv and stuff.
