Baby Sleeping Too Much

Hello again all I havent been in here in a
couple of weeks....My son was born on jan
16th almost 4 weeks yeah......But he
sleeps all the time and I dont know if I
should be concerned or not.
He sleeps throught out the night or 7
hours depended on what time he goes down
ex. He went down just after 12 last night
and was up at 5 for a feeding.
But during the day he eats and then pretty
much sleeps again, I have seen increased
alertness (not much but some), like in the
morning he I will stay up for a bit then
in the afternoon he will do the same.
There has been a couple of day here or
there that he will wake up and feed and
stay awake until his next feeding and then
go back to sleep, do you think I should be
worried that he hasnt shown a big increase
in alertness and he is almost a month
old?
Bye the way he is eatting about 4.5oz in a
feeding already, thanx for all your help

Lol......Thanx, I have been waiting a long
time to have him and have had 2
miscarriages trying so I have noticed
myself worring about every little thing.
I am going through a can of formual a day
he is eating 4.5 oz at a time so I think
he is getting enough food, but I am taking
him to the health unit tomorrow to get him
weight to make sure he is gaining
enought.
My dr told me that a baby should gain .5
pound a week, last time he was weighted
was 2 weeks ago tomorrow and he was back
up to his birth weight 8'1, so I am hoping
he is at least 9'1 tomorrow I will let you
all know

Hi jenn,
i wouldnt be worried, all the new borns do
is sleep and eat, enjoy it while it
lasts!! My baby did pretty much the same,
now at 7 months I am lucky to get a 30
sleep out of her during the day. Babies
do all of their growing when they sleep.
Good luck, I hop this helps

It's totally normal. Rest while you can.
Pretty soon he'll be up all day wanting
to be entertained and you'll dream of when
he slept all day!!

Melia did the same thing. She slept a
lot she still sleeps a lot, except this
weekend, but it's normal. Amelia slept
like that until she was almost 3 months
old and then she was down to 2 naps a day
and sleeping all night. I am sure that
he is just fine. It's normal to worry
like that because I worry about every
little thing.
Rest while you can because once he is over
this phase you will want to be able to
rest.

when .Oni had .R.S.V she really couldn't
sleep because her breathing was soooo
irratic and you could tell she was working
hard *just* to breathe, let alone sleep.
But it's true, when babies are ill, they
become lathargic and sleep alot.
But in a 4 week old, sleeping all day is
totally normal. They actually should
sleep 23 hours. Or something similar to
that.

Jordynne was awake quite abit when she was
newborn, now she sometimes sleeps alot,
but now I think she is starting to sleep
less. Most of today she has been up.
Taking a cat nap here and there, so eh im
hoping she sleeps at night, last night she
went down at aroudn 11 but usually it has
been 3am so I didnt get to bed till after
midnight and she stayed asleep until 6am
 so yay. Hopefully
shes getting intoa pattern or habit. You
will sooo miss the days they sleep all the
time, im sitting here hoping joseph takes
a nap hes being a whiny lil brat but thats
cuz its already 5pm and eh hasnt taken a
nap at all, chances are he will fall
asleep eating dinner lol and go to bed at
7 instead of 8 . But hes 18 mths old now
, usualy he took 2 naps a day when he was
younger like 5 mths or so. After the
whole mess of colic.
