Lower back abdominal pain: kidney stones? Posted: 02-12-07 12:03pm
I have been nausea for the past week and I
went to the doctor because I was also
feeling some abdominal discomfort. She
thought it might be my appendix, so I had
a ct of my abdomen and pelvis done. My
appendix was fine, and blood work and
urine came back normal, and told me it
could just be a virus. I now experience
pain in my back at the end of my ribs
whenever it is touched or I lie down. It
hurts worse on my right than my left.
Could it be a kidney stone? Wouldn't that
show up on a CT though? If not a kidney
stone, what else could be causing the
pain?
If you had a kidney stone, the CT-scan
would detect it. Pain that originates from
a kidney stone can’t be provoked by
simple touch or felt when you lay down.
kidney stone pain can be provoked by a hit
in the side on the backside of the lower
abdomen, so called the "sucusio renalis".
According to the description of “pain in
my back at the end of my ribs whenever it
is touched or I lie down”, you could be
experiencing some muscle pain that
originates from the muscles on the back.
You may consider taking painkillers to
temporarily relieve the pain and seek help
from a general practitioner for a
check-up.
