Dear Doc, In October of last year I was
diagnosed w/ mono. 6 weeks before
diagnosis, I performed oral sex on a
female who I no longer have contact with.
From what I can remember, about 4 weeks
after the incident, I began to have sort
of tingling/itching sensations in my
testicles & anus (not painful just
irritating). I visited the doctor & he
ruled out STD. 2 weeks later I had a
severly sore throart & swollen neck
glands. I was originally tested for strep
throat which was negative. I was then
tested for mono (mono-spot) which produced
a positive result the second week I was
tested. After a few months I began to feel
normal again but that light itch/tingle in
my testicles & anus still remains. I
notice it every day. The more I think
about it the more I feel it. It is not
constant but pulsates. I have also had a
sore lower back for last two months and in
last week or so contracted a cough, mild
sore stomach/throat, & light fever (maybe
related I don't know?). Does this sound
like STD?
A sore throat is one manifestation of the
infective condition mononucleosis (mono).
The other symptoms you mention(“light
itch/tingle in my testicles and anus that
pulsates”) have nothing to do with mono.
These symptoms could be related to a STD
but your doctor already excluded
STDs...perhaps because there were no
noticeable changes to the skin of the anal
and genital areas. The last group of
symptoms you mention (“sore lower back,
cough, mild sore stomach/throat and light
fever”) could be symptoms of any kind of
infection, including both mono and
sexually transmitted diseases.
According to your risky sexual behavior
(unprotected sex) you may also consider
taking an HIV-test and a test for
hepatitis B.
