Painful Intercourse... Please Help
Posted: 02-13-07 01:08am

Hello,

(i hope i'm posting in the right place and am not to graphical in my descriptions)

i have a quesion about a problem my fiancee is having...

About 2 months back, she went to her doctor for her normal check-up, but at the time, she was extremely tender and swollen. After this showed up, it was very painful for her during any attempt at intercourse. Prior to this, we had used a spermicidal condom.

Anyways, she went to the doctor and he said that the pain/swelling was most likely caused by the spermicide, and all of her test came back normal.

Since then, when we attempt the missionary position, it causes her pain as soon I am about half way in. If she is sitting up, such as on the side of the bed or on the edge of the couch, the pain isnt as bad, but still there. The only thing that seams to work without discomfort for her is when she is on top, and even then, its not always completely comfortable. The pain is very localized... Right side from her point of view (from mine, left if im in front of her)

-edit-
we havnt been able to really enjoy sex like we used to... Every time we do it, we dont do it again for atleast 2 weeks and we've waited up to a month before trying again and still no change.

-end edit-

other things dont seem to cause pain, such as oral sex, fingers, or tampons, so it is quite strange.

We have only been sexually active for a litle over a year, and we havnt been with others so an std is basically ruled out. She was planning on going back to the doctor but she doesnt think she can get into see him, since it isnt an emergency, before our wedding date.

This has been very hard on her and her confidence. No matter what I say or do, she still blames herself when the problem arrises.

We have never had problems like this before the use of the spermicidal condom... And things have always been very enjoyable for the two of us.

Also, her doctor put her on birth control about a year ago to treat extreme pain during her period. The pain was to the point that she was using heating pads (to the point of blistering her skin) and ice packs (to the same extent) because it was the only thing that would even slightly help. Now that she has been on birth control, the pain is pretty well non-existant anymore. I didnt know if this might have anything to do with it or not, so I thought I would mention.

Lubricants also dont seem to help much.

If anyone has any idea what could be causeing this or what we could do, please help.

Thanks in advance.

Lack of lubrication is the number one cause of pain during sex, so I would suggest trying different kinds. She could be allergic to some. Keep track of what you try and see if any certain brands are better or worse. Water-based is your best bet, especially if you use condoms.

Some medications make women experience vaginal dryness, so make sure she talks to her doctor about any medications that she is taking.

Her doctor really should be able to give her something to make the swelling go down if that is still there. If her doctor is very busy, and she does not think that she will be able to get in to see him or her soon, she could always try another doctor, a family planning, or a planned parenthood. It would not be a bad idea to see someone else to get a second opinion anyway.

For valentines, we tried a new lubricant... Which greatly helped... Just slightly tender instead of the sharp pain she was having... But shortly after orgasm, she started to become sore... And if its like the last few times, she'll be hurting in the morning...

Any idea of why this may be happening?

The pain was on her right side about 2.5-3" inside... And the pain was sharp.... No matter how gentle I was...

W/ the lubricant... Most of the pain is gone and no pain in the morning afterwards... So apparently it helped...

Still not sure why this all of a sudden started happening... And it doesnt make sence that the lubricant would help considering she is ushually well lubricated on her own by the time we do anything...

the showergel is an interesting comment, as my bf and I use shampoo as a lubricant in the shower, and had someone else yell at me on here for it. I do notice a bit of discomfort, but nothing beyond that, and it as only noticed afterwards, going away quickly. It's not hypoallergenic shampoo, but since i'm not allergic to anything, period, that's probably why i'm able to use it with no major problems.
