Someone Tell Me the Truth About Labor

Hi all!
So here I am in my 36th week and I must
say that pregnancy has been a breeze for
me...No sickness, stretch marks, braxton
hicks, swoolen ankles ect. Naturally im
now thinking that labor is going to be
payback time so what should I expect.
Its my first pregnancy and im wondering
what a contraction feels like and what
some of your experiences were?
I will be having an epi as well and want
to know how much that will really numb the
pain?
I just want to know what im in for! Any
experiences good or bad would be greatly
appreciated.

My epi didnt work and neither did my
spinal and I was in pure hell for 12 hours
and I literally wanted to die. There are
no words to describe my contractions. But
im sure not everyones labor was as bad.
Good luck.

It really is different for everyone.
I can't even describe how my contractions
felt. I guess it kind of felt like I was
being ripped in half. I had a terrible 14
hour labor that ended in a c-section. I
did get my epi after about 11 hours of
hard back labor but it wore off on half my
body after an hour. That hour was pure
bliss, I felt *nothing*. Then it wore off
and it was worse than before, I was in
agony. Thankfully they decided on the
c-section not long after.
To make matters worse, I was induced and
needed to be constantly on the monitor so
I couldn't move and I had to stay on my
back. Oh, and I had a horrible nurse.

Not trying to scare you love (because
there are plenty of people who have easy
labors, my sil being one of them the
b*tch! ).
But mine was pure, unadulterated world!
The beginning contractions felt like a
large wide belt that covered my whole
belly was being cinched tighter and
tighter until it felt like it was crushing
my internal organs. Then when they got
really bad they felt like I was being
ripped apart from the inside out while
being squeezed to death. They got bad
fairly early on. The nurses were amazed
at the read outs of my contractions and
kept whispering until one finally had the
ballz to tell me they the last time they
had seen contractions like mine it was a
10 lb. Baby. I got my epi and the truth
is I didn't feel a thing at all while it
lasted. Then it wore off.

My epi worked wonderfully. Contractions
feel like bad menstrual cramps, and then
progress to feeling like your entire
abdomen is being ripped apart from the
inside. Labor isn't fun. But you won't
be in labor forever (although it feels
like you will be), just stay as relaxed as
possible and know that when you see your
baby's face, it'll all be worth it.

Thanks for all the responses even though
some of them were kind of scary!
I guess what im now wondering is when the
epi wares off how much more can you get!
Seems like a few of you loved having the
epi and then when it wore off you couldnt
get more?

I didn't have an epidural and I loved
every second of my labor/birth.
The trace you go into when your body is
doing it's job is crazy. It's like a
crazy acid trip! Lmao! Just playin....
Don't be scared. It's a beautiful
thing!!!
Make sure you have people in there that
can calm you if you do panic. Not people
that'll just stare at you...Ya know? Lol
what are you having? Do you know?

Im having a little boy! I can hardly
wait to see him. We are calling him
sebastian.
The only people I want in the delivery
room are the nurses and Dr. And my
husband.
We thought for a second about having the
mom's in there but they would be more
emotional than supportive.

I went 8 days over and never fell into
labor even with an induction.
I ended with a section and i'm glad it
happened that way.
You never know!

I had the most great experience with the
pregnancy and birth of my son, even though
I had severe morning sickness with my
pregnancy until I was about 6 months it
was still great. My birth also was great,
I mean yeah it's gonna hurt, your not
gonna go through a pain free childbirth
either you like it or not. It hurts like
hell but an epidural does make it feel
better, I had to wait until I was 4cm and
had 2 bags of fluids in me through my i.V
before I could get an epidural, but when I
did finally get it, it was just amazing.
No pain at all and I wasn't all out of it
or anything. I still enjoyed the birth of
my son, I could still feel him coming out
but it just didn't hurt.
But.............
The after affects is what sucks. When
that epidural wears off, your coochie is
going to be so sore. Talking from my
experience the nurses told me they had
never seen someone so swollen down there
before, and it hurt sooo bad, to sit down,
it burned to pee because I got 2 stitches
and having to wear pads totally sucked.
That's just what you have to go through to
bring a beautiful new life in the world,
it's all worth it though and just remember
the pain will go away and won't last
forever.

I did not make it to the hospital in time
for a epi. There's a window that you had
to be in to recieve them I think it's
after dialation of 5 and before an 8
something like that. My first son I was
dilated at a 9, my second son I was
dilated at a 5 they had the epi ordered
they put me in the hot tub while I waited
for the doctor to come in to administer
the epi I got out of the hot tub after 10
min. Of sitting in there and was dialated
to a 10 for my third son I checked into
the hospital at 4:15 and had him at 4:37.
The contractions feel as if you need to go
number 2 and hurt like hell. Just try not
to panic breath and pick a focus point to
try to breathe calmly. I did not like the
heet heet hoot bs I breathed in slowly
through my nose and then let out slowly
through the mouth. Good luck to you and
like the others have said it is such a
miraculous feeling, though painful, it is
just an amazing ability us women are able
to endure with a beautiful result in the
end.

My contractions started feeling like
really bad cramps that kept getting worse
each time they came. I kinda went into a
trance and just focusing on getting the
baby out!!
I went natural but I had to have an epi
after he came out because I had some
problems with the placenta. The epi
didn't hurt for me at all. All I felt
wast three prickles where they numbed the
area and didn't feel the actual epi
needle. I could feel what they were doing
but I coudn't feel the pain down there.
I had very swollen labia and vagina too
afterwards. The nurses where a bit
concerned and wanted me to ice down the
swelling.
While I was in labour I did not want
anybody touching me or talking to me so in
my opinion and my experience tells me that
the least people you bring in the delivery
room, the better.

pushing almost made me pass out...

Unfortunatly I wasnt' able to go thru
complete labor I had to have a c-section.
I was in labor and before it was bad
enough to ask for an epi I was getting one
and haveing the section done.
But like sarah labor was a beautiful thing
for dalicia is was wonderful with the epi,
for other's it was awful thru no fault of
their own. There isn't really any
'truth' about labor. For everyone it's
different. You just have to see once you
get that far.
Good luck to you.

I had what they called a "social
Induction", the day after my due date my
doctor induced me because the next day he
was going on vacation. I was induced, my
contractions were full blown by the time I
got the epidural, they gave me nitrous,
which made me totally loopy but didn't
kill the pain and I think it was demerol
that they gave me then too.. The pain of
labour is unlike anything I ever felt or
will ever feel again. I remember
wondering how pain like that doesn't kill
you. People have suffered that for
hundreds of years without drugs? Are you
kidding me?? Anyways once the epidural
was in the pain was gone. It takes a few
minutes but I was completely numb from the
waist down. You could have hit me with a
baseball bat and I would have felt
nothing. After 2 hours of pushing like
crazy he said he would try to help but if
that didn't work, C-Section (my worst
nightmare) So thy upped my epidural and
broke out the foreceps. He got the
foreceps in and told me to push and by
that time I was so numb I had no idea if I
was pushing at all. They asked me if I
wanted to see my baby and I was like
"Umm.. yeah, that's why I'm here" not
knowing that she was already in his hands.
I had 200 stitches going from front to
back and both ways into my butt cheeks.
The hemmoroids will kill ya too. Get some
TUCKS and Prep H, use the peri bottle if
you get one, it rinses water over your
stitches and takes away the sting.
