Oral sex and infections
Posted: 02-14-07 08:20am

Hi,
I had sex last night with a person I do not know - not something I usually do. They were performing oral sex on me and were a little rough. I looked down and saw blood on my hands from holding my penis. One one side of my penis it had tiny abrasion marks (similar to a light graze you would get on the knee, but it bled a fair amount whilst my penis had been erect. I have noticed in the past that the area under my foreskin is sometimes a little raw and having masterbated earlier that day I wondered if it was due to over use. I shower daily (+almost daily shower after sport) and always wash under my foreskin.

I have 2 questions, the most serious of which is about what can be passed to me by another persons mouth. I am very confident of my sexual health, but I do not know about the other person. We had a chat as we were both alarmed and they told me they were clean in every way. Could you tell me the risks in this case?

Also, why is my penis sometimes raw under the foreskin?

Sexual behavior such as unprotected oral sex is considered risky behavior. Abrasions and wounds on the skin of the penis represent open doors for various infective agents that originate in your partner’s mouth and be transmitted to you. The mouth is full of bacteria that can cause local skin infection if the skin is injured, as in your case. Some infections, however, require “blood to blood” contact before becoming transmittable... which means that in addition to abrasions on your penis’s skin, your partner must also have damaged mucosa in her mouth (erosions, bleeding gums etc.).
The second question can’t be answered without a physical examination of the penis.
