Osteoarthrosis (osteoarthritis) is a
chronic degenerative disease with an
unknown cause. The disease affects the
joint’s cartilage and the bone under the
cartilage. The joints most affected during
osteoarthritis are the joints that are
under greater physical pressure (knees,
hips and spine). Painkillers are used to
temporarily relieve the pain. Hondroitin
sulfate and hialuronic acid can be
injected locally into the joint’s cavity
to help regenerate cartilage. Physical
therapy is also used in the treatment of
osteoarthritis. Joint replacement is the
final option for treating osteoarthritis
and it is a very efficient treatment,
although the recovery time is often
several months up to a half a year.
