How do you pronounce valkyrie? Is it just
like it looks, with the 'y' sounding like
"eye"? Does it mean something or did you
make it up? It looks russian to me.
I'm just wondering.

Um...I dont really know how to explain it,
im not that great with phonetics
um kinda like valerie only with a k in
there...Does that make sence?
And no I didnt make it up, its from norse
mythology (ive been a big mythology lover
since I was like 7 or its always been my
favorite story
if you go to www.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/val
kyrie it has a pretty good explination
there, just love the story
the short story is, they (the valkyries)
were/are the choosers of the slain, the
live in valhalla and serve odin, they
pretty much go around gathering souls of
brave heros who died in battle and take
them to valhalla where they are trained to
fight in the appocolyptic battle for the
side of good
yeah, I pretty much know it by heart, told
ya I love it lol
grr I just hate the fact that everyone has
been getting on my case lately saying its
a stupid name, that people are gonna call
her velcro when she gets older or (get
this) it sounds like a "black person" name
(sorry if that offended anyone, im not
racist I just know retarded people) grr
just angers me off...Sorry dont ranting

That's how it thought it was pronounced!
Don't let people get you down, .Alicia.
It really is a beautiful name. I get crap
from people about naming my son .Gabriel..
Saying it's too girly & people will
call him "gay"briel.
.Let people be idiots.
Your daughter is going to be beautiful!

Thanks for sharing. Who cares what other
people think, it's your child and your
decision. I'm sure you put a lot of
thought into it, and the meaning behind it
and the reason you love it are awesome.
I don't know if you're planning on
shortening it or giving her a nickname but
I love kyrie.
Nick wanted us to give finn the middle
name "loki" (i might be spelling it
wrong), it's also from norse mythology and
it's the god of mischief or something like
that. I think it's a cute name and I love
the meaning but it sounded too girly for a
boy.

Thanks everyone
krissy, gabe is a wonderful name and hes a
gorgous boy, I dont even need to see him,
he cant be anything but amazing, I know
that for sure
jess, I hate it when people have to be so
stupid about the colour of someones skin,
it doesnt make sence, no one is any
different because of colour, it wouldnt
bother me so much if they said african
name, but it still just gets on my nerves,
there is no need to be racist in this day
and age
bridget, thanks, I have put a lot of
thought into it, and I realized that it
isnt a "normal" name which is why she has
2 middle names that also mean a lot
(kristine from trevors mum and rose from
my grandma) so if she doesnt like it she
can chose one of those or a nickname (ive
been tossing up between val and kyrie, my
brothers ex's nickname is kirri and I cant
stand her, ever since the second time I
met her, shes been nothing but mean to
me)...I like the name loki (and yeah that
is spelled right) it actualy is a
masculine name, but if you didnt think it
was appropriate thats your desicion...Can
I ask what his middle name is?
Wow that got long lol

I'm sure valkyrie will grow on people (and
if it doesn't too bad). Honestly, I
didn't like it at first but now I really
do.
Finn's middle name is seamus and finn is
short for finnegan.

finnegan seamus, thats cute...Long but
cute....I still find it funny with his
name finn though, just a personal thing
because before I got married (and
technically still now, gotta get around to
changing it eventually) was/is finn lol

i'm determined to name my next daughter
.Keoki. And call her .Oki.
I'll have .Kayoni(.Oni) .Joilee and
.Keoki(.Oki) .Jhanelle
but .Baron says "hellll nooooo!!!" but I
look at it like this. *nobody* liked
.Kayoni. And now I get nothing but
compliments and told how "unique &
beautiful" it is.
So imagine a lil girl called .Oki! How
sweet is that?!?!

Ok, so even after you said "it's like
valerie with a k", I was still saying it
wrong in my head. Then I asked nick,
because he's into norse mythology as well,
and he told me how to say it and now I
love it. I *really* love it! I can't
believe people are giving you crap over
it.
So for anyone else who might be special
like me, the 'y' is like the 'i' in kim.
Val-ki-ree. Or as alicia simply put it,
like valerie with a k.

I think so. My man said "she's not
.Japaneese, so why name her something like
that?" and I told him ".Kayoni is
.Hawaiian, but she's not .Hawaiian at all.
Sooo...."
i thinks you daughter's name is going to
be unique and I can promise she'll get
compliments!!!
When I was pregnant I used to get the
nastiest faces when I would say her name.
They would tell me, "she's gonna get
picked on at school for that name!" and I
would tell them "yea, right. Ladie,
she'll be so beautiful, nobody's gonna
even notice her name. It's a beautiful
name and will only add to her beauty."
and look at her now. She's so beautiful,
people could care less about her name!

I .L.O.V.E the name .Valkyrie, .Alicia!!
It's sooo different (in a good way!) and
so incredibly pretty...I've always loved
names starting with the letters .V, .Q,
and .Z, because there aren't many of them,
so they're all unique.
And .Sarah, .I .A.D.O.R.E .Oni's name. It
lends itself to nicknames and it is just
so cute to begin with....Gah, it's just
awesome!
