I was prescribed prometrium today, as well as clomid.
I am confused as when to start prometrium. Do you have any advice?

Clomid is an estrogen blocker that is used as an ovulation stimulator. Clomid acts on the hypothalamus by blocking its estrogen receptors. Without estrogen stimulation, the hypothalamus begins to secrete more GnRH that, in turn, stimulates the pituitary gland to increase secretion of FSH and LH. FSH and LH stimulate the growth of ovarian follicles and ovulation.
Prometrium is synthetic progesterone. The ovaries normally produce progesterone in the second phase of the menstrual cycle, after the ovulation. More precisely, progesterone is produced by the yellow body (corpus luteum)-a structure that originates from the ovarian follicle after ovulation. Progesterone prepares the endometrium for implantation of a fertilized egg-cell. The yellow body produces progesterone in the first 2-3 months of pregnancy. After that time, the placenta continues to produce progesterone itself. There are rare cases of yellow body failure when the yellow body stops producing progesterone in the early stages of pregnancy . Yellow body failure can lead to miscarriage. Prometrium is given as a supplementary therapy to prevent miscarriage in case of yellow body failure. You can start taking prometrium after ovulation. If you don’t get pregnant, you should then stop taking prometrium.
