i totally, 100% agree.

Its one thing to want to make a better life for your family... But to come over here simply to take advantage of our benefits is wrong.

i don't understand how you know every immagrant to come here is coming for benefits...If that were the case why isn't .Canada complaining? They've got great benefits!

ok.

I didnt say every damn person that immigrates here does it to take advantage of our system.

I said those that do.

i personally know several that did just that.

I know this hits home cuz .Apolonio is from a different country, .Mandi but you need to not read so far into things and think that we are all saying that every person from another country is bad.

If that were true we'd all be bad.

I still don't understand what benefits (other than the boa bullsh*t) that illegal immigrants get. Is it different in other states? I know here you can't qualify for anything unless you are a us citizen and a legal non-citizen. Here they can't get cash assistance, food stamps, medical, childcare or anything else. i know that they don't qualify for ssi either. Do they get these things in other states?

And that's what's sad. Katrina killed .mississippi & .new .orleans.

I can see them trying that here, but in florida? That's crazy.

Your governor sucks balls.(sorry if you like him. I'm just fed up with the bush's. Do you know how medical answer long it took the red cross & .f.e.m.a to get here?!?!?! But they were *waiting* for the storm to pass so they could get into .fla. Hundreds of people died because of the bush's.)

lmao!! He's not as bad, but he still gets special treatment. I mean, his bro is the president!!

There's no way .george would let .florida suffer for as long as we did. No way!

It's because we're poor. And we're prodominately african americans. The government could give 2 sh'ts about us down here.

They refused to call a state of emergency when 2 tornadoes tore through our state. It's a sad sad thing.

I'm having a hard time coping with all of the damage these tornadoes caused. It's a flashback of .katrina. But, i know, in less than 2 months, it'll be hurrican season again. Crying
or Very sad

Let's cross our fingers that our levees don't breech! I don't want to have .oni go through that.

How can you go through that every year? I don't think I'd be able to stand living somewhere that had a hurricane season. Up here we get rain and we get snow. That's about it. Sometimes the snow is bad but not very often. We don't get hurricanes, tornadoes, anything. My butt would be packed and ready to go!

hmmmm... i better rethink puerto rico...

And .honduras!! & .jamaica! THey get slammed ever year too!!

But, honestly, the reason I stay is it's my culture. My heritage.

There's no place on *earth* like .new .orleans. Seriously, I'd be lost in another state.

Although I complain daily in the summer(about the heat and hurricanes). I wouldn't trade it for the world.

ANd if I have to rebuild year after year after year...I will.

not unlivable. But damaged.

The Severe damage happened about 2 mins away.

The only thing that saved us was our levee. But it was severly weakened. So this year, we'll more than likey be treading water.

We're already 12ft under sealevel. We're totally saturated. So any rainfall we get can cause serious damage/flooding.

It's a scary thing. But it's something I've lived with my entire life.

first of all, in pa (i don't know about other states because I dont work with other states) you can not qualify for government assistance such as cash assistance, food stamps or medical assistance if you are not a us citizen or legal non citizen. For ssi (which is the only sort of s.S. Payment an illegal immigrant could qualify for without a valid work history) you still have to be a us citizen or legal non citizen.

Actually, an illegal immigrant can migrate to the .U.S and have a child here. That child is then qualified for assistance - which they get, by the way. But guess who gets that money? It does go to benefit the baby, but it also (and I know because I work in that kind of community) goes to support the 3 other children that illegal immigrant brough with her that were not born in the .U.S.

Where are all these immigrants working and living if they are not supposed to be 'allowed' to live and/or work in the states without documentation? They are faking and stealing social security cards.

exactly.

Im all for people coming to this country to make a better life for their family.

but damn, do it the honest way, you know??

I see it this way...

if they cant follow the rules and come here legally and go thru the whole process to become legal citizens, then whats to say they wont respect our other laws and not commit crimes and take advantage of our freedom?

Aww .gen! THank you sooo much!!!

Last year for .katrina I was in .orlando for a skin/hair show! ANd I was like a month pregnant for .oni!!! I didn't realise I was pregnant though. I was hella snappy to my best friend and she was like," yo, are you pregnant? Or are you raggin?"

I hadn't even realized that I Had missed my period! We were so busy glued to the .t.v literally watching our lives be torn apart.

Things are no where near being back to normal. It's sad. Because any other state, it would have been taken care of.

And not only do we have hurricane season, but our "winters" being more sever weather than any other state. We get flash floods, tornadoes, and horrible rain(that our wetlands can't handle).

Many times I've thought about leaving .new .orleans. But I just can't. I can't leave my heritage.

If we were to ever move, it would be after me and .baron's grandmaw's died. I'd hate to take their grandchildren (my .granny's only great grandchild) away from them.

I want to evacuate to .pa!! Wink But if the hurricane doesn't go your way, after it leaves us, We'll def go there!!!!!!!!!!!! Imma hold you to it nah!!
