Ulcerative Colitis and Peri-Anal Abscess Posted: 02-19-07 17:49pm
5 years ago, I was diagnosed with
Ulcerative Colitis. They removed 90% of my
Large intestine and I had to have an
Iliestomy bag. 7 months after the
innitial sergury, I had a J-pouch take
down sergury and had the bag removed. But
then I started to get peri-anal abcesses,
so they diverted me to the bag again..
Now, 3 years later with a Iliestomy bag, I
think I might be getting another peri-anal
abcess even though I dont have any bowel
movements down there.. Is that even
possible? And if so, does that mean that
Im leaking inside and they have to cut me
back open to fix the problem, or will they
just have to drain the abcess??
It fairly impossible that you are
“leaking” inside after such a surgery.
Peri-anal abscesses with or without bowel
movement. The primary disease (ulcerative
colitis) can create an environment that
makes the body susceptible to developing
peri-anal abscesses because ulcerative
lesions can affect the anal opening. You
won’t need to be cut “open” again,
but the doctors can drain the peri-anal
abscess using fairly non-invasive
techniques.
