I’m a 35year old male and for the last 3
years I have been soiling my underwear and
its progressively getting worse. It
started out with an occasionally accident
about once a month but now its happening
once or twice a week and sometimes more. I
have been to two doctors that tried
different treatments such as impaction and
constipation etc. I’ve had X rays etc
but nothing works or appears to be faulty
that the doctors could find. The problem
is I constantly feel like I need to go to
the toilet but majority of the time
nothing happens so allot of the time I
ignore the feeling until its to late and
it is coming out. When I was young, up
until about 13 I regularly soiled my
underwear at school but had no problem
after that except the occasional accident
until 3 years ago when things changed. I
have found ways of hiding the facts but
there must be a solution to my problem.

Soiling Posted: 02-20-07 19:47pm
airborne912 ; It could be a simple case of
a week or inadequate rectal sphinter
muscle. They can fix this surgically. I am
wondering if the soiling is from diarrhea
as well? Although it might be embarrassing
to have soiled underwear is not going to
cause any harm other than frustration. You
can try a small panty liner in your
underwear to absorb the leaking stool.

Soiling Underwear Posted: 02-21-07 07:24am
Hi critical care RN. No I don’t think
the soiling isn’t from diarrhea because
they are always solid and I was treated
for both over a period of time but neither
helped at all. Maybe the inadequate muscle
is the issue given that I soiled my
underwear almost daily when I was young up
until I was about 13. Back then I didn’t
realize I needed to go to the toilet until
it was already too late. However both
doctors seem to think that area is ok.
Is it possible for your nervous system to
just lose contact with parts of your body?
The reason I ask is although I constantly
feel the need to go. I never seem to know
when it is definitely time to find a
toilet and majority of the time it just
comes out.
I have found that wearing 2 or 3 pairs of
underwear and a pad works ok but the pad
often only stops some of the soiling in my
underwear.

What does your diet consist of?? I think
that may play a big part in it.....or
recreational drugs?? That can have a huge
affect.

Hi mate
I can relate to your problem. I would
heartily recommend
1. this article showing you exercises to
control your sphincter muscles:
ht
tp://www.stmarkshospital.org.uk/Document.a
spx?DocumentId=86
2. Moist toilet paper
3. Loperamide diarrhea pills which are a
lot cheaper if bought in bulk from the
States on the Web (but stick to a limit of
6 a day).
Regards

Definately something to talk to your
doctor about. The ideas about physical
damage incurred in youth is something to
look into, as hopefully there is a method
of recuperating from it. While normally
more of an unconscious contraction,
perhaps there are ways to strengthen the
muscles through synergism of contracting
nearby more active muscles. For example,
by practising squatting techniques under
moderate weight, the gluteal muscles will
contract, and they are superfical to the
sphinctor.
I think there could be psychological
conditions related to many cases of
related maladies for this. Subtle body
language is often related to emotions
after all. For example, someone might
associated clenchin or unclenching muscles
in that region negatively or positively.
Are you aware of when this happens, a
sudden loss of control? If so it could be
valuable to review any common occurances
preceding it if there is some sort of
cause common to all. If it's more of a
subtle accumulation you're generally not
conscious of, it can be harder to
pinpoint. Alterations in posture or
mannerism or habit or activity could still
affect it maybe?
