I've had four hernias repaired in 8 years
, but only three surgeries.
First surgeries were done the old fashion
way , and the last one
was done arthroscopic where they repaired
two .
They were all done on my left side and now
after having some pain ,
they want to do an cat scan on my stomach
area. How normal are multiple hernias like
this and should I have a second opinion .
I've had two different surgeons. I'm
really getting tired of this !
Help !

Bwatts. I don't doubt that your getting
tired of this. The first thing I recommend
that you do is get a copy of your old
surgical reports. Read them and find out
how they fixed the hernias. If they used
mesh it is possible that this is what
causing your pain. The surgeons that I
work with have mixed opinions on using
mesh to fix hernias for this very reason.
The patient can have lingering pain for a
few months after surgery. Also with any
abdominal surgery there is a risk of bowel
adhesions that can cause pain. Not that
common in hernia surgery because they work
above the Omentum (lining over the
intestines). Also hernias can be caused my
many things such as ; genetics, heavy
lifting, previous surgeries, obesity and
weak abdominal fascia. Hope this helps.
