Incontinence And Ejaculation?
Posted: 02-22-07 11:12am

I forgot to ask the doctor today. It was bad of me to forget.

After a test to determine the rate at which I expel urine when I void (the rate is very low for someone my age, 23 male), the doctor asked me if I would be ok with a surgical procedure. I will be awake and a device (catheter?) will be inserted into my urethra to my bladder to look for blockages such as stones. He feels this is much more likely than my muscles not being strong enough.

I wondering if there can be any connection between this kind of incontinence (& slow rate of urine flow) and ejaculation? If I don't ejaculate (but have no erection problems) when I'm intimate with my girlfriend, could that be a cause?

White99; Let me educate you on a few things. This might help you understand what's going on. First incontinence is the inability to hold your urine or stool and it leaks out or you have no control over going to the bathroom. This is why people wear "Depends". Second it sounds like the doctor wants to do a procedure called "Cystoscopy". This is where they use a small metal scope connected to a camera so the doctor can physically look into your uretha and bladder. This is a very common procedure and it will help him see if you have any abnormalities in the bladder. Slow urination can be caused by weak bladder muscles or uretheral strictures (a narrowing in the urethra). He will also be able to see if you have a enlarged prostate that is closing down on the urethra. As far as ejaculation, if you have strictures over the ejaculatory ducts (that are located just below the bladder by the prostate) this will cause you to be unable to ejaculate. The doctor will be able to see this when his does his visual inspection. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of more assistance. Very
Happy

A urinary incontinence problem is why I'm seeing this doctor and having these tests done.

One part of my problem is that I feel the need to go to urinate more often but not always with a very significant volume. Another is that if I hold it, there might be some small amount of leakage on my underwear. The last is that overnight, I may urinate while sleeping - sometimes I wake up in time, sometimes I wake up during and sometimes I only discover the urine later.

I'm not sure if I have any problem related to ejaculation but I will mention the possibility to him before the procedure.

I very anxious to know what this test will reveal.

Sounds like a swollen prostate to me. Have they checked you for this? If they haven't and do, I recommend first trying an herb called saw palmetto. Take it as directed and see if these things clear up, they should and you should thank me if this is the problem. There are no side effects to this herb so you won't run any risk of dependancy or anything. I recommend trying it before medicine because usually the problem can be easily cleared up by simply taking this. You can find it pretty much everywhere.

some of the symptoms of having an enlarged prostate are; having trouble starting a stream (peeing), slow stream, always feeling that you have to go (frequency) and not feeling that you have emptied your bladder. Does this sound familiar? If you do have an enlarged prostate there is a simple surgical procedure to remove some of the prostate tissue. but I would encourage you to seek medicinal therapy first. There is a small chance that the surgical procedure will render you sterile. And always be careful with taking herbs if your on other prescription medications. Contrary to belief they can interact.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Just so I'm clear, is the "cystoscopy" procedure used to determine if I have an enlarged (or swollen) prostate?

It may be able to discover that since it passes through the space the prostate surrounds. And yes, always make sure to check medicine reactions to herbal remedies. If you're not taking anything or taking anything that will react to saw palmetto, try it, trust me. The procedure you mention is mainly to check the urethra and bladder for any problems, but I suppose an enlarged prostate could be discovered this way, but there's an easier method where they simply check for it through your rectum using a glove, takes like a minute.
