Question About Birthcontrol Shot Posted: 02-23-07 00:00am
Recently got the shot maybe about a month,
I asked the nurse who administered the
shot when I could have unprotected sex and
she said “instantly there should be no
issue.” well I had sex that same day….
My period instantly stopped and besides
being slightly moody, there has been no
issue. Now I am bleeding and it is not
really like a period flow but to me it
seems heavy for pregnant flow…. I took a
pregnancy test and it said that I was not
but maybe it was too early to tell not
being quite a month and all. What I was
wondering if anyone knows what is going
on? Should I just go to the clinic and get
checked out? Just opinions would be nice!
Thank you!

Didn't I post in response to this
already?
Apparently not... Don't know what happened
to the topic. Anyway, if the nurse says
you're safe then you're most likely safe.
Also, you were on your period when you got
the shot. How long do these shots last?
Horomonal birth control almost always
makes your period lighter and shorter. I'd
say you're just spotting.

I believe when I started the shot the
nurse told me to wait 24 hours, but I
could be wrong as that was about seven
years ago.
Abnormal bleeding is very common when
starting or stopping the birth control
shot. Some women have spotting for a very
long time, others have a lot of blood for
weeks, others have no blood at all, and
still others have everything in between.
If you are not familiar with the side
effects of this drug, you might want to
look into that more as the shot can cause
irreversible damage.
You can still get a pregnancy test at the
clinic to make sure. There's certainly no
harm in wanting to be certain.
