New Fitness Program, Sudden Height Loss
Posted: 02-23-07 14:29pm

After being physically inactive for most of my adult years, I started a new fitness program, in conjunction with our local Y's "Biggest Loser" class.
I am 36 years old, and started the program at a weight of 197 pounds. Previously, I never exercised or worked out or watched what I ate, but since January 16, I have been very careful to do so. I have completely eliminated soda/pop and started to drink mostly water. I have cut my portions in half, and have nearly eliminated all greasy, fast-food items. I have loaded up on salad and other good-for-you foods. I recently started to read food labels. In addition, I am now committed to working out 5 days each week, spending 30 minutes on weight-lifting machines on 2 of those days and running 3 miles on 5 of those days. I also take part in a walk & tone class and a cardio-dance class. I am down to 182 pounds and I feel really good. However, I have lost an ENTIRE INCH from my HEIGHT just since October. Could my recent exercise regime have done something to my height? Weird question, I know, but I have no answers.

No the diet wouldnt have cause you to lose an inch. This is probably more due to measurement error and the time of day. The body shrinks a little during the day as the soft tissue i.e IV disks get compressed.

an inch seems to be a lot for disk compression... you may want to measure your height about the same time as you measured before. you might have damaged your spine. Either way, get your measurements checked first.
