Advice About Weight Gain Needed!!!
Posted: 02-24-07 01:28am

Hi Ladies!
Just thought I'd ask all the experts here Wink about weight gain and some good idea's for healthy snacks that fill you up! I am 12 weeks pregnant, and I am starting to show already. Of course the arse and thighs have gotten bigger, and I have put on about 4 or 5 pounds so far. Not sure if this is a decent weight gain or too much so early on??? Rolling Eyes
I am still going to the gym about 2-3 days a week and eating pretty good - not more, just more consistently.
Does anyone have some suggestions on some good and yummy snacks to munch on that doesn't have alot of fat and sugar? I've been eating fruits and nuts, etc... but it sometimes upsets my tummy.
Suggestions on a decent weight gain total for pregnancy? I am curently 5'5" and weigh about 156 right now.
Thanks for the advice - I appreciate it!!!!!

glad to hear things are going well!

what are you doing at the gym? i'm pretty sure working out during pregnancy is a big no-no. if you're doing aerobics or swimming, or water aerobics or something, that's fine. but if you're going & lifting weights or running or sometihng.. you might want to talk to your doctor about that.

as far as weight is concerned.. just make sure you keep your weight gain pretty steady.. try not to do any big jumps.. for example, in a little less than a month at the beginning of my 3rd trimester, i gained over 10lbs.. & .then the next time i went in, i had only gained about 3lbs.. that's not good. just try to keep it pretty steady. i'm 5'5" & i weighed about 150lbs before i got pregnant, & i have gained 40lbs so far & .i'm 37wks.

just keep eating right & taking care of yourself & you'll be just fine.

Sounds like you are off to a good start. 20-30 pounds is recommended, and it comes on fast in the end

You should check on your work out routine with your OB. Walking is great exercise, but be careful not to get your heartrate up too much. It's also not good to get over heated. Low impact exercise is fine as long as your healthy enough to do it.

Good luck to you!!!

Thanks you all for everyone's advice!! It's great to hear and makes me feel better that I seem to be doing ok!
I spoke to my doctor about the gym and b/c I was going before regularly and training with weights, he said that for now, it was still ok. I do not lift heavy anymore. My typical workout is about 30-45 min's of cardio (on the eliptical) and then some light weight lifting - more for toning my muscles, some stretches and then I'm done!!!!! I feel alot better after my workouts, but I can already see how it's going to become increasingly more difficult over the months to come! Wink

A - thanks for the tips!! I also weighed about 150 before getting pregnant and my doctor said about 25-30 lbs for me was ideal to gain - now let's hope my body will agree to take it off in a decent timeframe after the baby comes!!??!!
I am looking forward to seeing pic's of your little one when he comes!!! Good luck with everything girl!

Yummmm - I have been craving alot of fruit too! It actually sounds good for breakfast right now with some eggs!!!! Gonna go and eat now! Thanks again ladies Cool
