My girlfriend uses Depo-Provera. She was
late for her shot because she was thinking
about getting off it. She was late by
about 10 days.
She then decided to get her shot again
yesterday.
Is it safe to have sex with her now? How
long does it take for the drug to take
full effect?

It is advised not to be too late in
getting the next shot as there is always a
possibility of no protection. That being
said it can (although not always) take up
to six months/longer for fertility to
return after the last shot of depo.
To be on the safe side use another form of
contraception for a week.

Moo is right. Many women take months to
get back on their cycle and become fertile
again. Ten days probably won't hurt
anything, but using condoms for a week is
a good idea just to be on the safe side.
