or anyone else in louisiana

i have a kind of stupid question...have any of you seen that commercial for kleenex? the one with the girl talking about katrina? does that offend you/annoy you or anything, it seems to me like its really rude and inconsiderate to those whos lives were devistated by katrina, kinda like its down playing the horror of it

i was just wondering how you guys felt about it

umm it was a girl (probably in her early 20s) and a guy sitting in a park having like a little interveiw and the girl was saying that she lost 30 people during katrina and that she is trying to stay strong but she sometimes just has to cry adn how much she loves kleenex blah blah blah

its not like a bad thing (if its true) but it just seems kinda wrong using that to sell tissues, to me its like using 9/11 to sell something or victims of the war to sell something, just seems wrong to me *shruggs*

Huh. I've seen .kleenex commercials similiar to that lately, but not that one.

Katrina didn't hit our city like it hit others, but I do kind of take offense to the idea of it. I don't appreciate them talking about someone's sorrows as a method of selling their tissues. Katrina affected thousands upon thousands of lives.

It's possible that the commercial is banned here?

why is it bad??

Its a part of .Kleenex's *Let it out* campaign.

Theres nothing wrong with showing a girl pouring her heart out and releasing all that pent up anger and frustration about losing people she cared about.

I see it as .Kleenex lending a shoulder to cry on in a time of need.

I see it like this. Kleenex could have talked about all other kinds of topics. Births, cancer, engagements, etc. Katrina only happened a year and a half ago, and we're still recovering from the aftermath. It's too raw. It still hurts. We have enough reminders right outside our door without seeing commercials for it, too. at the end of the day, Kleenex is putting those commercials out hoping people will buy their product. They're making money. And to talk about something so emotional so soon after it happened, while waving their product slogans around, is (in my opinion) offensive.

I think what .new .orleans needs, is to "let it out."

Seriously, we don't and therefore are all depressed about .katrina, still. Laura's right, we *do* see it everytime we open our doors. We've learned to adapt to the change.

I think making a commercial about letting out your emotions. ANd that crying is *not* a sign of weakness is an excellent message to get out there.

This weekend, I went through a horrible ordeal, and haven't stopped crying. I feel weak, but not ashamed to cry. It's something all humans should do when and if they feel the need to.

Penting up emotions, and trying to "forget" about what happened, is inevitable. Who wants to remember the horror?!?!?!?!? If you haven't heard/read much about .katrina, you should. It's a heart wrenching disaster, that could/should have been prevented.

I guess it depends on how you look at the commercial. If you see it as an add to boost sales, then you have one point. If you look at it as a message to the people around me who are still mentally suffering from their losses, then you have another.

We have the same "let it out" campaign going on over here.

Haha this post reminded me.. a woman from .Florida came over here a couple of years ago and when she saw our .Kleenex tissue box she went nuts going on about how big our tissues are compared to .American ones. I found it funny how she could go so crazy over a box of tissues! Laughing

Alicia, they do play that ocmmercial here. And nothing has been said negatively about it.

I would have never looked at it in that way if not for this post.

No, I'm sorry. In my state of mind, I shouldn't even be on here.

It's not your fault.
