Please Help With Symptoms Posted: 02-27-07 00:57am
Hello,
I will try to make this brief> I
have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis,
Fibromyalgia, arthritis, reactive
hypoglycemia and possibly low adrenals.
All of my problems and symptoms started
six months after I had a complete
hysterectomy in 1995. It was then that I
was diagnosed with autoimmune Hashi's,
then came the hypoglycemia and then the
rest.
I seem to go through cycles where I do
pretty good but like right now I am
suffering with symptoms. I admit I didn't
behave very well through the holidays and
so now I think I am paying for it. I have
been on a pretty strict diet for the last
week but still don't have much relief.
Some of my symptoms are: headaches,
tired, achy, ringing in my ears,
palipitations, skipped heartbeats, muscles
cramps, stomach problems, anxiety,
insomnia, eyes ache, terrible acid reflux,
hunger, internal trembling, etc.
Since 1995 I have been through
soooooooooo many doctors and specialists
with no one being able to come up with
anything. I have been to cardiologists,
gastrointerologists, internal med doctors
etc., and they all say that all of my
tests are fine. I've never had a doctor
even want to acknowledge that reactive
hypoglycemia even exists, even though I
have told them that most of my symptoms
come after I eat.
I like my primary care doc but he
strictly goes by test results and if
things are within the normal range, then I
must be fine. He only does a fasting
blood test for blood sugar and it's always
normal. He did a blood test that showed
my adrenal function was on the low side of
normal but still in the normal range. No
one could ever explain the palps and
skipped heartbeats after eating, they just
said that my heart tests were normal and
sent me on my way.
So I have done a lot of reading and
research on my ailments but reading this
forum has made me realize that there are a
lot of us out there with the same
symptoms. Does anyone have any good info
to give me on how to try and get rid of
these symptoms, if I am still trying to
eat the right things? Maybe supplements??
Any advice would be so appreciated.
Thanks,
JaniceW49

It's all just eating correctly. If you're
still getting symptoms like that you're
not doing something right with your diet.
Post here what you typically eat and I'll
tell you what to do.

Hi Stan,
Basically what I eat is a small bowl
of plain, nonfat yogurt, with fresh
blueberries and some ground flaxseed in
the morning. For lunch, it's usually a
salad with protein such as seafood, turkey
or chicken and then later in the day I
have either a low carb Slim Fast or a
plate of veggies and cottage cheese.
In-between if I get hungry I will have
some nuts. I put myself on this diet to
help loose weight too. I need to loose at
least 50 lbs so far I have lost about 8
lbs in about 6 weeks.
I was reading on a heart forum that
acid reflux (GERD) can cause skipped
heartbeats. I didn't know that as that is
one of my main symptoms I have been
plagued with. I have had GERD for many
years and am having a flare of it now and
have had for several weeks. I take
Protonix but it doesn't seem to be helping
much. I may go to an antacid too and see
if that helps.
I appreciate any advice you can give
me.
Thanks

Hmmm, seems okay in general. What kind of
vegetables usually? What kind of nuts?
What's in that slim fast you're drinking?
That's the one thing that bothers me.

Hi Stan,
The Slim Fast's that I buy are the low
carb ones. I can drink one and don't seem
to get symptoms afterwards. The veggies
that I buy are broccoli, zuchini, snap
peas, carrots and tomatoes. The nuts that
I eat are usually walnuts or almonds.
Sometimes I buy pistachios too.
Thanks,
Jan

Hi Janice
You might wanna cut out the carrots peas
and tomatoes for a while and see if that
helps. These vegetables can often cause
reactions in some.
The best thing to do is go an extremely
strict diet for a week or so and see if
that helps, make your dieter stricter than
normal and eat the same things everyday.
Have only good cuts of meat (not pork)
whole grains and vegetables regualry.
If this doesnt help reduce the amount of
carbs you have and see if that helps.
You may need to try a low carb diet for a
while if nothing helps, there are various
internet resources that will be able to
help you with this.
It is hard to say what your cause may be
without an individualised look at
everything you are eating and a keeping a
detailed food plan to document when you
have your reactions.

Cut out the carrots, root vegetables are
not recommended when you're still figuring
things out. It doesn't matter if they're
low carb, it's the ingredients that are
probably getting you. List them here so I
can see what's in them.

Sample Diet Posted: 03-06-07 01:09am
Stan, can you give me a sample of a good
diet? I have tried to stay with a strict
diet and am still having symptoms. Maybe
I just need to have a sample of what you
eat or know of what I should be eating
daily. I also am trying to loose weight
too.
Thank you,

If you're trying to lose weight, there is
only one way to do it. Either you choose
to eat a high carbohydrate low protein and
fat diet or a high protein fat and low
carbohydrate diet. That's all there is
too it. Go too much in one direction
without enough of the other according to
what you're doing, and you'll gain weight.
If your carbs are low, you should only be
getting them from vegetables. Mainly
leafy greens like green leaf lettuce or
romaine, not iceberg because it sucks and
has almost no nutritional value. Green
beans are good, as well as green peppers,
red peppers, yellow peppers, spinach,
broccoli and such, all of which can be
stir fried with some chicken, turkey, or
whatever you like. I recommend eating
only walnuts, as they contain chemicals
that are converted into serotonin when
they get into the body. Almonds are okay,
but actually contain a mild poison that
can upset your digestive system if you eat
them too much. For milk products you
should preferably be eating only goat or
sheep's milk yogurt with bacterial in it,
no added anything. Organic is preferred
for milk products. If you want cheese or
milk, the latter must be in raw
form, otherwise don't even bother. Cheese
is okay in nearly any form as long as its
not processed. I prefer raw and organic,
but you may be okay eating whatever.
Protein intake should be at least 80-100g
to start. If you do a lot of activity,
increase it to around 120-150g. Fat
should be fairly high, but not too high.
If you're eating a lot of nuts, there's
some right there, but also add in organic,
unpasteurized cultured butter. It's easy
to find. Most health food stores carry it
now and I've even seen some supermarkets
with it in a special section. Unsalted.
I also recommend eating a lot of eggs, up
to four per day. It's good to start
breakfast with two, including an avocado
because it contains a special sugar that
blocks insulin production. For fruit,
I've found that apples are the best for
you. I prefer organic, but again you
don't have to do this, I just like to keep
as healthy as possible. I eat one half an
apple slice with every meal except the
last one for the day. You may also want
to supplement with a few things. First,
there is brewer's yeast, which will give
you a decent amount of carbohydrates in
the morning as well as some goodies that
help with sugar regulation. Then, you can
also try supplementing with something
called Primal Defense by a company called
Garden of Life. When I wake up at night,
I take one, they must be taken without
food. They contain special ingredients
and bacterial cultures to help keep your
bacteria in your intestines healthy to
maximize assimilation of foods while
keeping problems at bay. You'll never get
sick if you take this stuff. Also you
should be getting a good multivitamin, and
unfortunately you're not going to find
this at a supermarket, going to have to go
to a health food store for it. Be careful
of any ingredients I say you should avoid
in my diet post on this forum (look for it
and read my recommended avoidance list).
You may also want to supplement with a
nice calcium/magnesium/zinc tablet because
with a higher protein diet you tend to
drain these a bit faster. Also, the one
thing I strongly recommend is fish oil
capsules, but only if they're from wild
caught small fish. It will say so on the
bottle and these beauties will get rid of
a number of problems you are having.
Anyway, to give you an idea of how I eat,
here's a sample day of mine:
1 Primal Defense tablet if I wake up to go
to the bathroom at night
Upon Wakening
1 tablespoon of brewer's yeast, followed
by a small handful of walnuts, two fried
eggs (butter is good, but you can use
nonfat canola oil spray from a health food
store), 1/2 of a vitamin, about a whole
avocado (depends on size), one apple
slice, small serving of sheep yogurt, rose
hips tea, water
Meals After That (Roughly Every Two Hours,
I stick with this pretty hardcore earlier
in the day, but after four I can go
longer, even up to three or four hours
before eating again)
small handful of walnuts, two and 1/2 or
three scallops fried up with some green
beans, broccoli, peppers and salt, serving
of italian cut green beans with butter or
6 brussels sprouts (I like to rotate the
beans and the sprouts every other meal),
sometimes some organic raw unpasteurized
sauerkraut (gold mine is the best), at
least two large leaves of green leaf
lettuce, depending on the time of day I
might have one fish oil capsule or 1/2 a
calcium/magnesium/zinc tablet, small
serving of sheep yogurt (I eat this with
the brussels sprouts), 1/2 an apple slice,
nice large glass of water
(not chlorinated!!!!)
Last Meal of the Day
1 tablespoon of brewer's yeast, small
handful of nuts, two hard-boiled eggs (I
only purchase cage free, organic, extra
large by the way) green beans with butter
and salt, large leaves of green leaf
lettuce, fish oil capsule, cup of rose
hips tea, glass of water (go to bed no
longer than one hour after this)

Hi wdiguy,
My symptoms usually kick in within
just a few minutes after I eat, about
15-30 minutes after eating. It's usually
tiredness, to the point of nodding off,
then comes the palps and other symptoms
such as a headache and sometimes nausea.
Sometimes they come even when I am
sticking to a strict diet.
