Taking Medications During Pregnancy? Posted: 02-28-07 12:38pm
Hi
there, i have a question. I found i am
almost 13 weeks pregnant, my periods were
always irregular, so i never thought too
much of a missed one. I have been taking
15 mgs of Morphine twice a day for pain, i
have stopped taking it now, but am
wondering and worried if this will have
affected my babies growth, or fetal
development? Are there any fetal birth
defects known caused by Morphine use
during the first trimester of pregnancy?
I have tried to find some information on
the subject and all i have found is that
with prolonged use during pregnancy the
baby can become dependant and it could
cause shallowed breathing in a new born.
I have talked to someone else about this
and they said Morphine is a B rated drug
in the first trimester, meaning no known
birth defects are caused...if you have any
or more information for me regarding this
subject i would greatly appreciate it.
Thank-you!

This is something you should ask your
doctor about. If they're concerned at all,
they'll order an ultrasound to check for
defects.
