Caps?

Would you possibly consider fixing the caps lock block? I understand why it's there, but...

~we can't use all of our smilies Sad
~we have trouble using links sometimes
~.i don't like sticking dots in front of my words! And .i'm so used to it that I catch myself doing it in emails, myspace blogs, etc...

couldn't you ask the mods to edit posts if they're in all caps? Or maybe take on a few more mods if you think the task would be too much for the ones we have already?

Just a thought! Mr.

I agree 100% ^^^^^^^^^
It makes it so much harder for all of us on the pregnancy site to share some of our pictures and videos because of the caps after a period. And sometimes it's hard to understand abbreviations and whatnot.

i agree, this is a great suggestion! it's very frustrating trying to share links, photos, videos, sometimes even our own thoughts with the caps block on! if someone abuses caps, the mods can either delete or lock the post, or give a first warning, & if it's abused again, then action could be taken. i'd love to be able to use all the emoticons & not have to worry about putting periods in front of everything!

I agree. Perhaps it could be tried for a trial period to see how it goes?

Yes, I agree. People on these forums often have to place a period ( . ) before words like names that they want capitalized in sentences, because the anti-caps filter turns off all captial letters except those after a period, except the letter "i" or "I'm", "I've", etc.

However, the problem with this is that often link names will be written with "blabla.html" at the end, and that capitalized "h" can wreak havok! Other sites that have problems are ".php" and ".cps". These extensions are very specific in their coding, and capitalizing random letters renders them unworkable.

I've never noticed anyone typing in all-caps for an entire post. People will capitalize a single word sometimes, and the filter does not stop them; they simply do something like ".n.o.b.o.d.y!" and place periods in front of every letter they want upper-case.

So the filter does not prevent people from posting in caps. It does cause accidental decapitalization on new lines (new paragraphs) in posts, and people just find ways around it. It also causes severe problems with web-site linking.

The filter doesn't do what it is meant to do, and has too many negative side-affects.

If the caps-filter was a new drug trying to be okayed by the .f.d.a, they would shoot it down!

I'll do my best. For now, the caps is automated to register after punctuation to avoid "screaming" banshees who post only in all caps. I'll take your suggestions to the management of the boards.

All the best, Admin
