Is It Time to See a Doctor?
Posted: 02-28-07 15:48pm

I stopped hormonal birth control at the end of December. My husband and I have been using condoms and coitus interruptus (the pull-out method).

I've had two regular menstrual cycles that came right on time since stopping the pill. This month, my period is now officially a week and a half late. It's never been this late before. Since my period was due, I've taken 4 home pregnancy tests, all negative.

My symptoms are a dull cramping sensation in my lower abdomen, slight constipation, occasional backache, slightly tender nipples, and I had some bad heartburn a couple weeks ago. I eat a very healthy diet, so it's not the result of a poor diet.

The negative pregnancy tests have been reassuring, but I've read stories about women who are pregnant despite multiple negative pregnancy tests. Is it time to see a doctor, or do you think I'm overreacting? Again, I've had 2 normal menstrual cycles since going off the pill, so this is very strange to me. It just doesn't seem to be coming. Sad

If it's bothering you this much, it might be time to request a blood test. Even if you aren't pregnant, it could be something else. GOod luck and let us know what happens!

it could just be an effect of going off the pill. even though you've had 2 normal cycles, things could still be a bit wonky.
