how does depression & stress affect early pregnancy? will it harm my fetus that i'm depressed? how about anger? right now, b/c of my father's passing, i'm angry at the world. i'm being so mean to everyone b/c it helps me to vent. i know it's wrong, but it's how i deal w/ my pain. and what about my future child? will i pass this depression on to them? i'm an emotional wreck as of late. i'm afraid i'm going to cause myself to miscarry, but i'm not letting that add to my stress. i'm just worried i'm going to hurt my baby unintentionally. i'm not letting this stress interfere w/ taking care of myself. i'm eating healthy, sleeping pretty good, drinking lots of fluids, & taking my prenatal vitamins. but does stress itself cause damage? or depression? is it going to affect the way my child develops?

please help me out here. i'm just a mother going through a lot right now.

Most women who are preggo go through some sort of mood swings. I would go from happy to sad to right pissed off in a matter of minutes. It's hormones. I'm a bit better now, well today anyway.

I'm not sure of the long term effects of a mom's depression or mental status during pregnancy. Stress isn't good for you, and since you are the one in charge of giving your baby what he/she needs right now, you should find a way to get yourself healthy. Sounds like you are doing a good job of taking care of yourself and that is important.

I'm really sorry for your loss though. It must be a really hard thing to go through. Take care and good luck!

Some studies suggest that an extreme high level of stress can sometimes cause miscarriage. This is thought to be due to an increased level of cortisol running through your body.

With that being said, I was extremely stressed during my first pregnancy and my little one ended up being just fine. A lot of women go through depression and stress throughout their pregnancy and they end up delivering healthy babies. It already sounds like you are doing what you can. You seem to be doing better than a lot of people by eating right, etc.

I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing. Honestly, please don't worry too much about your baby as you are doing so much to take care of him or her. You are not a machine and can't just shut off your emotions. I just can't imagine going through what you are going through right now. I am sure I would have a myriad of emotions as well.

Hugs to you
