Q: Update - Weight Gain, Heartburn...

I went to the specialist (perinatologist) today and saw a different doctor because my doctor was busy. The guy looked over everything and said that I don't currently have signs of blood clots and the baby looks very good.

I have gained 20 pounds in 19 weeks and now weigh what I weighed when I was pregnant with Nathan around 19 to 21 weeks. Gaining 20 pounds is so much, though. When you look at how much I gained in such a short time, it is a little depressing. The doctor told me he was very happy I gained the weight and said this will be a good pregnancy. I weighed a little less than 100 pounds when I conceived. That was not purposeful as I tried really hard to gain weight. My metabolism became very fast after Nathan was born and was not the result of hyperthyroid or any medical factors. I ate a lot, too.

I no longer have that problem. I guess I need to be prepared to gain a total of 50 or so pounds. It is refreshing having a doctor congratulate someone on gaining so much weight already!! He told me to keep it up. I don't think that will be a problem. He also said that I can now exercise, such as light walking. I CAN Exercise!! Can't have sex though, dang. (Oh, just felt the baby move!!!!)

I had another test done to see if I continue to have a postive cardiolipid antibody, which would indicate chance of more blood clots. If I have two positive tests in a row, I do have a problem. I was in the at risk range before, so I am sure it's not significant. If I am a little positive, the doc will just give me baby aspirin. I am so happy that this pregnancy now looks good. I don't have to go back for four weeks because the baby looks so good!!

Thanks to you who responded to my heartburn post. The doctor did tell me to try pepcid (name?) if the tums doesn't work. Tums only worked one time. The doctor didn't say anything about calcium being a problem like someone told me it is, but I also didn't ask. My mind was on too many things. I will probably try the pepcid. Heartburn sucks!!!

most docs dont even realize that calcium causes acid rebound. no doc told me this until i saw my sons GI (gastroenterologist).
good luck with the pepcid. my son is on prevacid during the day and pepcid complete at night time.

that's so great, karin! i'm glad everything is going well and the baby looks good. don't worry too much about the weight gain, i'm sure it'll come off quickly when you're back to chasing nathan around while caring for the new little guy.

I am 19 weeks now. I will be going to the store today to get that Pepcid, hoping it helps.

I haven't picked out any names yet really. My husband and I can't agree on any names. When I do choose a name, he doesn't like it. He doesn't know what names he likes. I will need to check out a baby names book and make him pick out at least four names he likes. I think that would at least be a start. I had five really cute girl names picked out but no boy names...grrr. It was hard enough coming up with Nathan "Nate".

You weighted less than 100 before getting preggo? I'd say 20 pounds is good than. Lucky girl

i still like zachary/zach or samuel/sam.

it's hard picking a boy name! we had/have 3 girls names we love, it took us forever to come up with finn's name.
