Preemies! Posted: 03-02-07 00:04am
Hi! I was wondering if any of you have
premature babies or know of someone that
has one? I myself am a preemie. I was born
May 20th 1986-3 months before my due date,
weighing less than a pound at 32 weeks (I
believe). I had to be delivered early
because I wasn't growing inside my mother.
I had many complications including
pneumonia, RSV (which nearly killed
me),etc. I only had a 10% chance of
survival and here I am. My Nana told me
that one of the docters told my parents
just to let me die cause I wasn't going to
live. I proved him/her wrong!
Our family was a Ambassador family for the
March of Dimes in Cleveland, OH both at
our local chapter (Lake County) and the
Cleveland one. We have been in the
Cleveland Magazine and I have been in the
newspaper and on TV twice. I was born at
Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital and
as to date, I am their smallest survivor!
So, if anyone has a premature baby or you
yourself do, go support your local March
of Dimes chapter.By doing that, we are on
step closer to having/seeing all babies
born healthy!

my boyfriend was a preemie. he was born at
32wks. which i believe is just 2 months
early. & .he was about 4lbs 2oz. he
has lots of problems, now. but it could
also be because his mom did quite a bit of
drugs while she was pregnant with him.
which could also be the cause of him being
premature. he has problems with his spine,
& his ankles weren't formed correctly,
& he had trouble developing mentally
in school.

My friend one of a twin weighed 980grams!!
Today she is fairly big built and no other
complications other than she was is icu
for awhile cause the lungs didnt develope
and she had hep B when she was small. But
she is beautifull now - wouldnt say!!
My daughter isn't technically a preemie
because she was delivered at 37 weeks..
but she'd stopped growing a few weeks
prior to that. She weighed 5lbs 1oz.. and
other than not being able to breastfeed
she was fine. I consider myself very
lucky.
I heard on the news about a baby that was
born at 21 weeks and only weighed 10oz.. I
couldn't believe it. I thought .Jenny was
tiny until I saw that!

My daughter was a premie. She was born at
28 weeks and weighted 2 lbs 7 oz. She was
intubated at birth, because her lungs were
not completely mature, but she was very
onery and pulled her tubes out. She came
home from the hospital 6 weeks later
weighing 4 lbs 4 oz.
She had no real major problems. She was
way below average in size until she was
about 6 years. People used to stare at us
in stores because she was like a little 9
month old carrying on full conversations
at 2. She has a lazy eye, but has had
operations to straighten it and it has
strengthened a lot through the years.
She'll be 17 in May and there is nothing
abnormal about her now!!!
There was a baby in the NICU with her that
was 1lb 11oz. He was born at 26 weeks and
had a lot of problems. He passed away
when he was around 11 from complications
from CP.
