Missed Period
Posted: 03-02-07 07:38am

I am on the progestin pill. I cosistently get my period on the first day of the sugar pills. This month I did not get my period and I am on the fifth day of sugar pills. I took a home pregnancy test and it was negative. What could be the reason that I did not get my period?

How long have you been taking the pill? It is quite common for progesterone only contraceptives to stop periods completely after the first few months.

Otherwise, has there been any change in your diet recently/have you lost weight or suffering from stress? There are many reasons why periods can stop, pregnancy being only one of them.

Best of luck

I have been on the pill for 5 months now. i have been under extra stress for the past few months. on top of that i had two back teeth pulled 3 weeks ago which became infected. i had considered this, but, was not sure medically if it would apply.
thanks for the thought.

Were you prescribed anything for your teeth and, if so, did you use another form of contraception?

Stress can be a major factor in stopping periods/making them irregular but if you are still worried about the possibility of pregnancy you can ask your doctor, if they think it's necessary, for a blood test to determine possible pregnancy.

Saying that, personally it took around 4 or 5 months before my periods stopped when I first started taking micronor (pop) and I wasn't pregnant (that time - not scaring you hun)

Best of luck with it.

If you took antibiotics for the infection, that could have had a verystrong impact on your pill's effectivenss, in the bad way.

Progestin only pils do not actually have a placebo week, all the pills are active.

What brand do you use?

They do not have a placebo week...

Just as I thought..

POP pills do not have a peirod week, you always take an active pill, every single day.

Progestin only BC methods can and do cause many women to lose a period, or to have irregular cycles.
