I was just wondering the pro's and con's of a 3d/4d ultrasound. It's probably not something I would do but I am pretty curious about it.
any info would be great Smile

i don't think there are any cons, other than you usually have to pay for it yourself.

mostly it's just a novelty, you can kind of see what your baby will look like and it's much more clear than a regular u/s. personally i think they're creepy but also really cool.

btw, what's your name? i'm sure i know but it's driving me crazy.

They are expensive if your insurance doesn't pay for them. That is the only con I can see.
I think they are awesome, especially if the sonographer you get likes to play with the machine and is patient to get good shots.

I like them a lot....but my reason being when i was in the hospital and having complications i had like 100 u/s and they did a few large ones in 3d. My baby passed away but i have been able to have these and frame them. and yesss he looked just like the ultrasound pics.

i loved having my 3d/4d ultrasound. there aren't really any cons, as .bridget said. it's really neat to see your little one's face & see what they're doing in there. mine wasn't too expensive, actually. but .i'm sure it all depends on where you live & where you have to get it done. my doctor's office has ultrasound machines in the same building. & .for a 30 minute 3d/4d ultrasound it's $75. i got a disc with like 10 pictures & a video clip. it was so worth it!

.mee tooo. when i was looking up info online about it before i got it done, it was saying they're usually $200 - $300! i was like oh hell no. but i asked the ultrasound tech at my doc office & she said they only charge $75. i dunno why it's so cheap. it was really good quality (you guys have seen the pics!) & we got lots of pictures & stuff!

I got it done at 16 weeks to find out the gender and I plan on doing it again at about 30 weeks.. I think it is the coolest thing ever.. mine was only about 80 $ or so and i got a video, 10 pictures, and the lady did it for about 20 minutes... It was very very cool and im glad that I will have it to show my daughter when she it older.. Look on the web for ones in your area and sometimes they have coupons (thats what I did)

What was cool about the 4 d was they were opened on the weekends which is why he could go and see it done. The office that did it offered the gender determination on the site. I still have my other u/s on March 13th so i'm kinda waiting to go crazy on the girl clothes until then but she was pretty spread eagle and the doctor who performed the u/s said that she was 99% sure it was a girl...Your right though she totally looked like an alien..I have pics if anyone wants to see them?

No one will tell you 100% if it's a boy or a girl.

I was going to go and have the 3D one done and I found out that they are not at all recomended because they have to send such a strong current from the Ultrasound wand in order to see the baby so clearly. They say that it can actually harm the child. I personally dont think its worth the risk. But everyone is different and I am sure that different doctors have differing opinions.

Take care girls,

Mary
