Wanting Diagnose And Help Posted: 03-03-07 21:14pm
I have been dealing with hypoglycemia
attacks for years. Last year I was
pre-diabetic my GTT at 2 hours was 187 mg.
I lived in a remote area, so doctors were
limited and they couldn’t go anything
because I was not a full diabetic. I now
live in a metropolitan area, and have been
feeling more weak. I decided to go back
to the doctors.
My symptoms are: shakes (only sugar stops
it), blurry vision, weak hearing during
attacks, floaters in vision, confusion,
moody, weight gain. My BMI is still at a
normal level, I go try to eat healthy, and
be active
I did 2 GTT at my new doctor and my
results with my accu-check was 169 and
148. My sugars are somewhat stable in the
morning, per above numbers, it is later
during the day I go up to 258 mg. I know
my hypoglycemia attacks are from my sugar
drops. I hope to get help. I read on
metformin and how it can prevent diabetes
in pre-diabetics. Do you think it would
be silly to ask the doctor for a trial of
metformin? I do not want the shakes
anymore and I would like the opportunity
to cut on carbs and increase proteins
without getting the shakes. I read that
metformin stabilizes glucose levels,
without hypoglycemia, lowers cholesterol
and triglycerides – all good things for
me.
It seems as I can’t get help because I
am not obese and doctors like to only look
into my new problem of triglycerides, that
is recent and I do not believe that is my
initial problem. Even thought that I do
hurt from my symptoms, doctors seem to
lean to my problems being in my head.
Should I be firm and ask for that trial?
