Q: How Accurate Are At Home Pregnancy Tests?

I was just curious as to how accurate at home pregnancy tests are?

I took one just yesterday and the second line (making it a 'positive' result) was very, very light - almost too light to see. In fact, I didn't even notice it until I put my glasses on.

So, should I take the other test (two came in the box) and see if it's negative? Or should I just go ahead and assume pregnancy?

in my case very accurate. i got a slght line in the 2nd window the next one i took was bright pink. I would say yes....but wait till the morning and take it again....then if you are still wondering....make an appointment and get a blood test done.

good luck.

the accuracy of home pregnancy tests depends on a) how closely you follow the instructions and b) how late your period is.

if you follow the instructions to the letter and your period is at least 1 day late then they are in the region of 99% accurate - although each test will tell you it's accuracy on the box.

please note that a home pee test is no more or less accurate than a pee test at the doctors although again this depends on your accuray of following instructions.

Well, I took the other test this morning and I followed all of the directions and I still received a very faint 'positive' line. I sent my husband to go and get some of the digital tests to test again tomorrow.

99% effective, huh? Crap.

I called the quack shack (term of endearment for the campus health center) and they don't do the blood test, only a urine test. I don't have health insurance so I made an appointment at Planned Parenthood for tomorrow morning.

I'm so depressed right now. Thanks for your answers.

A slight line pretty much means your preggers....it was for me.

is your period late? if so, how late is it? in the instructions on hpt's, it says that *any* 2nd line is considered a positive result. no matter how faint it is. you may be just testing a little early, & there isn't a whole lot of the pregnancy hormone in your body yet.

Not at this time. It really is one of the worst possible times for me to be pregnant.

I'm 5 days late so I first tested at 4 days late. Both days I have had a faint second line on the generic form of the test that either gives you a " " sign if you're pregnant or a "-" if you aren't. The "|" line is very light. In fact, on the first one it was so light that I didn't even see it until I put on my glasses. The second test was very light as well but I didn't need to put on my glasses to read it.

if there's any line at all, you're pregnant.

It's rather presumptious for you to think that I was not being as safe as humanly possible, eh?

We were using condoms, in fact they were spermicidically lubricated condoms. I did have to go off of my birth control for other unrelated health problems but we used a condom every time and put a new one on before he ever got near me. Thanks for your concern but if I am pregnant it's not because I wasn't trying to prevent it.
